THE Madonna?
I wasn't sure whether to place this in the religion section or humor - but it does have an element of religion, so here goes. This morning, as I was driving my 18 year old son to the airport for his flight to France we had the following conversation about places he should visit while backpacking through Europe. Orthodox Jewish Kids Learning Arabic
Yesterday, I read an interesting piece in the NY Times which featured a Jewish High School where many kids from my city study. A few years ago, students requested that the school teach a course in Arabic along with French, Spanish and Hebrew, and the school complied. Why did the kids want to learn a language associated more with "the other side?" To spy? To use it against them? Not at all. El Al, the official airline of Israel
El Al means "To Up" or Up and Away, and it has a history that goes as far back as the State of Israel itself. With its initial fleet of DC-4's acquired in 1949, it flew its first Israel-USA roundtrip on June 25, 1950. El Al continued to operate after the Sinai War of 1956, even when all other airlines ceased service to Israel, and in 1960, transported Adolf Eichmann from Brazil to Israel where Eichman was put on trial and hanged.
