I'd Just Love to Lay You Down

I'd Just Love to Lay You Down I wrote this just before we went on our valentine date, Feb. 14, 2007 Last Saturday night, I was watching this really awful televised talent show they have at a local casino. Jay was away that night photographing a winter formal. I say it was awful because it reminded me of American Idol rejects. I learned a lesson about judging a book by its cover. This 30-something average sized man wearing blue jeans, an ordinary jacket, and a baseball cap pulled down low to... Sign in to see full entry.

IS Parkinson's disease Spiritually Inflicted?

In this picture, I am in labor with Nick, my second child, and we had just arrived at the Holistic Birthing Center in Topeka, Kansas, July 11, 1983. He was born 9 lbs 2 oz, 23 inches, at 2:00 a.m. July 12th. I was 30 years old. The position of my right foot would suggest Parkinson's. My tapping right index finger started at age 30 as well. The fingers on the left hand are also indicative of rigidity associated with PD. A new reader of mine posed this question. Before I go off ranting and raving,... Sign in to see full entry.

I Festinate. Do You?

This is the Diva of Zaftigs, a deli in Brookline, MA, where my sister lives. I get quite a few giggles when people see her on my tee-shirt, especially when I turn around and see her from behind. I like her because it shows that she considers herself one sexy babe! I Festinate. Do You? I have a new style of walking that showed up last August. I'm still doing it and have to consciously think of what to do to avoid it. I festinate. It means I start walking faster and faster, almost as if I'm... Sign in to see full entry.

Wired!

Here I am being wired to measure my gait or walk. I did this same study about 4-5 years ago with a different team of researchers. Working on me is Adriane, the cute girl from Rio De Janerio, Brazil; the man kneeling is from India, and the man at the computer is from China. My neurologist and Movement Disorder Specialist is from India, is quite handsome and dresses like he walked out of Men's Quarterly! My new neurosurgeon comes to KC by way of Boston and sounds like he grew up in the Boston... Sign in to see full entry.

Participating in Research Studies for Parkinson's disease

I am doing a follow-up research study at the University of Kansas Medical Center. I feel it's important to participate in such studies to help further understand the 'ins and outs' of my small dis-ease, as YPunday called it. Wednesday will mark day 3 of 3 trips to doctor appointments of the week. I'm sorry I haven't been around to blog as much as I usually do or to read your most interesting thoughts as I'd like, but I am getting yearly tests and evaluations done, as I should. It takes a lot of... Sign in to see full entry.

On Telemarketing

I thought I would tell you what I found out about keeping telemarketers off your phoneline or cableline! You need to register your phones every five years! I didn't know that! Of course, you have to re-register if you get a new number. You can call a number and it must be made from the phone number you are registering. That number is 1-888-382-1222. If 31 days after the day you register, you get a call, just find out who is calling and/or their phone number and they will be fined. It takes 30... Sign in to see full entry.

Never Had this Happen!

Yesterday, I got a call from (and for the life of me I can't think of what this kind of call is called!) let's call her a "junk mail caller." I was especially conscious of my vocal level and thought think loud and I answered with a pretty loud "Hello" or so I thought. The caller said, "Hello? Is anyone there?" I answered "yes" and she asked specifically for me. I told her it was she speaking. She went into her 'schpeal', then stopped mid-sentence, while I on the other end was ho-humming and... Stem Cell Debate Heats Up Again

Yes, it's back! Stem cell fever! Yippee - 'Ol Man Parky, my uninvited resident in my brain, doesn't like it. They may discover something that would force him to divorce me. They are finding that the stem cells found in amniotic fluid are just as teachable as the embryonic stem cell lines that are creating the slippery slope of when does one become a viable life. When does the spirit enter your being? I tend to agree that it is closer to birth, because you as a spirit aren't going to do what it... Sign in to see full entry.

A New Patch and Two Agonists

First noted signs of Parkinson’s, 1984 A New Patch and Two Agonists Part Two: I now understand the impact of this disease upon my body. I was observed with a tapping finger at my son’s baptism 1983. That was when I was 30. As the tapping progressed to tremor to non-functional hand, I was finally properly diagnosed when I was 36 or 37. I have had a lot of time to get acquainted with this Old Man Parky, that was foisted upon me at the young tender age of 30. The average age of onset is 60. I was... Sign in to see full entry.

Me and My Shadow (Parkinson’s)

Neurosurgeon, Steven Wilkinson, me, Neurologist/Movement Disorder Specialist, Dr. Raj Pahwa May 2000 one year post Deep Brain Surgery Part one: Today, January 4, 2007, Parkinson's disease (PD), has made the news with two big stories; ALL on one day. Wow! It is taking me too many words to put this into one blog so I’m splitting it into two parts. My next title (A New Patch and Two Agonists) sounds like I'm giving a movie review but I don’t think it will be nearly as humorous as, say, " Four... Sign in to see full entry.
