“With Parkinson's, You Pick Your Times”

"Happier Days - Happy New Year 1988" Parkinson's disease claimed the life of our Aunt Mary. Her memorial service was last Saturday. I had made plans to go to funeral of a former classmate to be held three days after. I suspect that at age 55 and in the care of hospice, the classmate might have succumbed to cancer. I never made that one. That is what I meant by the title. I have to pick and chose what events I am up to according to how much energy I have. Mary was 85 years old and had wasted down... Caroline, I SEE you. What will be your answer? I whispered yes. yess. yessssss. you left me. standing there, with yes still drying on my lips. Smaller and smaller you became until I could see you no longer. The indelible taste of yes burned forever onto my lips. Sign in to see full entry.

Michael J Fox on Oprah

As I watched the Oprah show March 31, 2009, Michael J. Fox was trying to sit and converse. I thought Oprah looked uncomfortable. I don't know if I read into expressions more these days or if I am more sensitive to people's reactions. Fox, 48, has lived with Parkinson's for 18 years. The Dyskinesia, or uncontrolled movements caused from taking the medications used to control tremors and other PD symptoms, was a distraction. I admire him for committing to an hour long talk show. Sitting down when... Sign in to see full entry.

A Human Pin Cushion

lark! My head is flying and my heart is smiling so big it tickles. A Wednesday, January 28, 2009 A Human Pin Cushion My Journey with PD - 1985 A CASE FOR HYPOGLYCEMIA - 1985 Certainly my symptoms warranted more tests. The tremor in the right hand persisted and now there was a sudden fatigue issue as well. 1) I had collapsed into my shopping cart at the grocery store, barely able to walk to the car. 2) My little girl, age 5, helped me unload groceries into the car, 3) got her baby brother... The Dead Grape

In spite of my thinking I looked too normal, the doctor wanted to run some tests to be sure something wasn’t going on. Many ailments do not present upon going to the doctor’s office and she was going to set up some tests at the hospital, just to see what it was NOT. That brought me a sigh of relief. I realized at that point that I wanted to put a name to what was going on. There was no doubt anymore that I did have something unusual happening to my body. She left our conversation at a curious... The Gig is Up!

“Who IS that?” whispered the girl with kitty-cat whiskers drawn on her cheeks. Her friend was adorned in red sequined Devil horns and was holding a long red tail with a matching sequined point on the end. It had been safety-pinned to the seat of her pants, and she stroked the pointy part as she stared. She was peeking around the corner at the ghoulish figure standing at the school office’s counter. She remained quiet. “I think I have it!” she finally whispered back. The 8:20 bell had rung that... Sign in to see full entry.

The SOS

“Dot. Dot. Dot. Dash – Dash - Dash – Dot. Dot. Dot. S-O-S. Help me.” My right-hand index finger must have been trying to get someone’s attention since I had been ignoring it for months. I was laughing about being pregnant and blowing out 30 candles on my birthday cake and was oblivious to my tapping finger. My little brother reached across the table, and covered my right hand with his. Pressing down gently, he looked me in the eye with a puzzled expression on his face. "Can't you stop that... The Prescription

A very nervous man, accompanied by his nagging wife, was examined by a doctor. After checking the chart, he nodded and wrote the man a prescription for a powerful tranquilizer. The man asked, "How often do I take these." "Let's start off with once every six hours. But they're not for you." replied the doctor. "They're for your wife." Sign in to see full entry.

The News

The latest opinion is that I need to cleanse my skin three times a week with a special cleanser because the staff aureus that lives on my skin (and everyone's skin) is colonizing. (Man, what next?) The Dermatologist said it was a little hard and he'd take it out. When I told him about how close it was to the wires, he said, "We'll write a letter to your neurosurgeon so HE can take it out. " So I do have a 10 minute "surgical" procedure yet to endure with this one. As long as I don't get any more... Sign in to see full entry.

One Left to GO!

This is basically what I reported to TAPS. I took the picture to show just what it looked like. They all gasped when they saw it. The nurse thought it looked like a boil! Consequently, I got the works, including having the ID (Infectious Disease) doctor examine me. I got X-Rays showing where the infected area was relative to the wires. The dermatologist will determine if I get cut-on any more. The ID doctor today said he doubted it would need to be removed and the neurosurgeon said, "Not unless... Sign in to see full entry.
