Handicapped Should Never Travel Solo (Overseas)

I've been back for a month or more and I'd better get some thoughts recorded before the dementia eats up my memories! My flight out of KC was delayed 5 hours because of the tornado warnings. The ticket agent assured me he could reschedule me all the way to Istanbul. My luggage got sent ahead due to other delays. I got to Dulles in DC and that international plane was packed full. After fifteen minutes taxiing to our spot on the runway, the captain explained there was an electrical problem. They... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm Leavin' on a Jet Plane...

Two days left before I leave. I'm going on a journey with my brothers and sisters; destination Istanbul, where we will tour for four days, and then Cruise for seven days aboard a Yacht, stopping at the islands between Turkey and Athens, where we will take many excursion trips. My agenda today is keep two doctor appointments, make last minute calls (not personal) and review international airport laws to be sure I don't get something confiscated. I learned on my last trip to buy several little... Sign in to see full entry.

Brain Augmentation

The following cartoon strip is from "Pearls Before Swine", October 6th, 2007. Brain augmentation - I wonder if they use pigs brains for that? In 1997, my husband, Jay, and I traveled to Chicago for a Parkinson's disease symposium. Researchers had just begun a study examining the implantation of pig brain cells into the brains of people with Parkinson's. DBS (Deep Brain Surgery) was still very experimental and just vaguely known about. There was a Q&A session and one older lady asked the esteemed... Sign in to see full entry.

Miles to Go

Promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep This is the scene of my morning, which was ever so brief. It was the kind of morning I'd dreamt of prior to 1996, the year I retired from my life's profession, teaching. I had always wanted to sit on the deck on a crisp "back to school" morning and watch the kids trek to school while I stayed home. I had hoped to hear some of the notes of "On Ohio" or another of the high school marching band's fight song wafting over the tree tops, that are just... Sign in to see full entry.

Before and After the "Bleps"

Before I take up the Rug Doctor work again, I will share my before and after Blepharoplasty pictures. About 8 months ago, when we got our Photo Booth built into our Intel/iMac, and this is the first picture I took. The other picture was yesterday, 9 days after blep surgery. I have eyelids again. Even with swelling, you can see I have eyelids again! I can see better already and as the swelling slowly recedes, 3-6 months, that will improve as well. My mother-in-law asked if this was typical of... Sign in to see full entry.

re: Did You Run Into a Door?

EYE PROGRESS: I was asked by a doctor yesterday when I went in for a Study check if I had walked into a door! This is day five and I certainly look like I fell down the stairs or into a door. But I promised progress reports and this is making progress. It's still pretty puffy and swollen but the stitches came out today. A lot of fluid settled below my eyes, really giving me a black eye effect. I should look a lot different in a few days, the doctor promised! He said I look better and I reported... Heat Stroke for SICKOS

TAPS got me started, and as she often does, has roused my dormant thoughts about a topic I can personally speak to! That topic is, the danger of heat stroke. Parkinson's has robbed me of my internal thermostat. I am very careful these days when temperatures start to reach three digits as they are nationwide this week. The one thing I am blessed with is central air conditioning. Keeping the mortgage and utilities paid can be a struggle some months, but on a summer day like today, I am thanking... Parkinson's Brought me Freedom

I posted the original blog that tells about how I have found many blessings DUE to having Parkinson's. This is the second half. I first wrote this in July, 2005, where it is posted on blogtext.org/ccwriter71 This is dedicated to you who are teachers, going back to school, preparing for yet another year. I hope that some day you are able to relax this time of year, and soak in some spledid Autumn day as I am about to describe. Imagine yourself... On a typical day, I watched as the morning ground... Zelapar

After watching "The Constant Gardner," that I had no idea was about the power of big corporations (in this case, a pharmaceutical company), it is going to sound somewhat hypocritical of me to say I'm beginning my participation of a new pharmaceutical for Parkinson's disease. I have made a slight variation in my medication for only two days so far, and I cannot say I feel improvement. I may even feel a little slugish and more symptomatic. It is in the Selegilene genre of agonists, meaning there... Sign in to see full entry.

Sanctity of Life

My contribution to the following editorial: I have this cartoon hanging from my desk top at all times. This is a reprint of a Yahoo News editorial by Cynthia Tucker. Sat Jul 14, 7:56 PM ET A veteran of combat and police sieges, Richard Carmona thought he knew a dangerous assignment when he saw it. But he didn't know what he was getting into when he signed up to be U.S. surgeon general in the administration of George W. Bush. He entered an unfamiliar high-risk environment, sprinkled with snipers... Sign in to see full entry.
