Fishin'

Ever have one of those days when a word is right on the tip of your tongue, but ya can't quite say it? I know the name of this bird, but it escapes me. (Corection!: It's a Blue Heron. Thanks, Sherry!) Either way, this stork-like bird was walking the shoreline of this lake, picking off minnows, baby... Sign in to see full entry.

Ghost Pipe is known by many names, most commonly Indian Pipe, Corpse Plant (it turns black after blooming), or Monotropa uniflora for those in the know. While Ghost Pipe grows wild in most of the United States (except the Southwest), sightings are rare and each plant blooms for just one week... Sign in to see full entry.

Piebald Eagle

I found several eagles in the UP that were piebald, or black and white instead of just black. This one is a young male I first saw in 2017. Eagles don't get the white head that is the main characteristic most people associate with the bald eagle until they are four years old. In the summer of 2021,... Sign in to see full entry.

Things Are Looking Up At Hartwick Pines State Park

I lay on my back to take this shot to get a nice, clear photo after getting dizzy trying to get one in focus. This is in the Hartwick Pines State Park, in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, one of the two original growth of pine trees that once covered Michigan. I use to bring my kids here to camp for... Pretty Mushrooms

Again, I was sorting photos and found this shot. The embedded tag in it says August 2019. I took the shot because of the contrast in colors! Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.

I See You!

This was taken in the late spring/early summer of 2020. The wife (then "girlfriend") & I were walking along a favorite trail, and she said she heard something in the bushes, so we stood still, and sure enough, this pretty yearly doe came creeping out to check us out. Take a look! Sign in to see full entry.

Loon In The Morning Fog

I took this shot at the Seney National Wildlife Preserve back in the late spring of 2017. It was about 8AM, but the air was cooler than the temperature of the water, causing this deep fog to hang over the pond. I was just taking all the beauty in when this mama loon came floating by with one of her... Sign in to see full entry.

Angry Superior Near The Black Rocks

Another 'honeymoon' photo that was taken on the east city limits of Marquette Michigan. I was messing with some solar filters, and as you can see, this particular shot did not benefit from the filter, but that was the purpose of the exercise! Despite the bad filter, the power of the lake is still... Sign in to see full entry.
