Where's The Middle?

My brother had a good first week working with M. With the exception of M having a mild meltdown, it was pretty uneventful. My brother says that M is very smart. I think that it is sad that he is to be kept in isolation from the other students because he can become violent. I wish a happy medium... Sign in to see full entry.

Connections

My brother starts a full-time job next week. He will be working temporarily at my Mom’s school as an aide for a student with Asbergers, M. I hope that all goes well and that my brother is a positive influence on M’s behavior, which Mom says has been difficult this year. Sign in to see full entry.

The Shot

My brother T is giving a motivational speech at an elementary school this morning. Staff members of the school and the managers of his basketball team believe that young children might just listen to a young man who made good choices, played basketball, did well in college, and is successful. Colors

Today was a special and important day at Mom’s school. Today was the rededication of a very special mural at Mom’s school. The mural was lovingly restored by the original artist, even as she struggled with cancer. The restoration of the mural was finished shortly before her passing. T’s beautiful... Behind Closed Doors

It has been a hard week at Mom's school. One of Mom's former teachers passed away in an accident. As adults, we can only do so much in our efforts to shield children from the pain that is caused by the outside world. If only that were enough. Sign in to see full entry.

Keeping Score

Students have been out of school all week due to the snow. Officials are trying to decide what to do about standardized testing and are also discussing whether to extend the school year to make up for the lost time. How do you feel about schools requiring students to take standardized tests? Are... Sign in to see full entry.

Her Own Woman

My sister and niece were here this weekend. We had a terrific time. Is it a bad sign that at ten months old, Lura has already learned to shake her head, "No,"? LOL. It seems like Lura will be a strong-willed, independent, woman. That is a terrific blessing. I will let you in on a little secret. The... Sign in to see full entry.
