I have no idea what the source of that smell could be nor what to recommend
I only wish you luck with it.
I've grown up with cow manure fertilizer, and stinky wellington boots left in the porch all my life so am used to stinks.

I would be running all over if I had a basement. Surely this would not happen to the same family but once in a lifetime. I bet it is beautiful up there.

well, now there's one advantage of living in the Great White (temporarily green) North - you won't find too many houses without basements here! And usually nothing can get in. We had a raccoon die on us once, but he was considerate enough to come out from under the deck, where he spent most of his time...

Not sure but we think it was a opposum that had been stealing the cat food. It probably crawled under the house somehow in the daytime and at night could not get out. It is yukkkkk

A squirrel fell down my chimney last summer.
It couldn't get out and finally died. Chimney sweep had to come, open the flue, and clean up the maggots and corpse when the mess dropped into the fireplace! It was a horrible smell.

Oh that sounds like another bummer. My husband has checked all the possibilites in plumbing, at least I hope so. LOL. You are right I feel like I can smell that stuff in my sleep. Yes I am doing better, it comes and goes....wish it would go for good.

Oh my, how strange and awful!
Glad the smell is gone, but the memory would linger since you can't pinpoint the cause. Once my garbage disposal backed up; it still ran so nobody knew where the horrid stench permeating the whole downstairs was coming from until the pipe burst...fun, fun..not, lol.
Hope you are well, dear Justi.

Yes it is very expensive. There is another procedure where it is done like vacuum process. The house is old and the dirt is soft and powdery outside the foundation. Some of them in this area have had this done. They can survey to see if enough can be removed without damage, etc., either way it is really expensive.

I am glad that was not in your beautiful new flat. It is a once in a lifetime deal for sure.

Ewww! Yuck!
It would be an expensive proposition, but perhaps you could have a new foundation built under the house, lift it up a foot or two, and remove the planks and studs from direct contact with the ground.

Yes it has to be some sort of dead animal. Thankfully it is gone now. Oh it was a horrible smell. Yes I love my old house. It is more than I can take care of easily, but I hang on to it because we all love it. Thanks for your comment.

A dead animal? Your house sounds lovely, but somewhat of a handful?
