Interesting situation...
I thought it was understood that we all read, but do not necessarily leave comments all the time. I know this'll sound corny, but sometimes words are so inadequate and sometimes I just cannot find the words to express what I feel.
On another note Quirky, you do seem to be a magnet for strange, new communication rituals!
You have my sympathy.

I have...
A very elaborate spreadsheet click/keylogger running on my computer, so every time I click on a link and leave a comment - it counts the clicks per website, and the number of letters I actually type in the comment section. Then it cross references that with the phases of the moon, planetary alignment, and the speed at which Jell-o shooters solidify. And then returns that result to my parrot which then goes... your're not buying any of this are you?
Well, I'd say C'est la vie to them and let them pout. one of two things will happen - they'll go away and leave you alone or they'll realize that they were being childish and apologize. Probably the former, but either way - problem solved. Try not to let it get you down for too long.

I also appreciate those that read what I post. I try to read as many as possible and comment. I don't get the "clicks" that I would like to see but I do enjoy reading and writing.

chill pills would be an EXCELLENT invention, except that it would be difficult at best to get the people who really needed them, to take them. They'd have to be tasteless, so they could be slipped into a drink, hehe.

If a person leaves me a link in my comments and a nice request that I read what they wrote I'll do it. I don't have time to read everyone's posts every day. I wish I did, but it isn't humanly possible. So, in answer to your questions,
1. I have no idea who or when this tit for tat thing came up. I recommend that we all read what's tickles our fancy. I look through my favorites before looking elsewhere for tickles.
2. It has always had a kiddy pool of writers, but there are life guards and most people who write on Blogit are grownups. Not me though. I'm a little kid having a tea party on the bottom of the pool.
3. The only kind of person, who could have the time to go around counting every single click would be someone who needs bellybutton lint to count.

This immature person needs to mind their own posts and stop trying to stir up trouble. Anyone who bases a friendship on pure greed and power play isn't much of a friend and less of a person.

If I were you . . .
I wouldn't have even bothered going back to that person's blog(s) after such an infantile email to you. Blogit is a place for people to write and practice the craft they like best. Getting clicks and money through those clicks is an added bonus.
Some people are just idiots.

I usually do click on a blogger who leaves me a comment
but only if I've not read them before. Once I've read a blogger I can then decide whether they're writing something I want to read regularly (in which case they get added to my favourites) or somebody who I might just refer back to from time-to-time, if at all, just to see what's going on.
Some people take blogging just a little too serious sometimes!

When I receive a comment from someone, I would hope it's
due to that they were interested to read me and not just with the intention of receiving a reciprical click. I guess some just hold their priorities of why they're here in a much different light than many others.

Good grief! I hate that. Whomever that was needs to learn what "friend" means. It does NOT mean someone you give something to once or twice in order to guilt-trip and/or blackmail them into giving you something in return.
Yes, I do expect the people I'm friendly with here will read me, but only because that's a natural flow of how a site like this works. It's definitely not intended to be on a clique-for-clique basis (pun intended).

Must have been an AOL member
All the crazies are on AOL. I often read blogs, but don't respond--who has the time? By the time I read and then try to write my own stuff, the entire night is gone. What a silly, strange person. You are well rid of whomever. I've been blocked by some fundamentalist fanatics, which I take for a compliment. I'm a native New Yorker. I like irritating fanatical people (LOL).
