Rainbows in the mist

At the foot of the nearly-400 steps into the Canyon, the view of the Lower Falls is spectacular--especially if you're there at the right time of day, the right angle... The rainbows shift, ebbing and flowing in intensity and range as the mists billowing off the falls surge and retreat. It was... Sign in to see full entry.

Wolf or Coyote?

Saw this critter in Yellowstone... about 100 yards from the road, seemed to be intent on a small-game hunt. Next time I'm going for the camera with the 18x optical zoom--this is only 10x optical, plus whatever faux (digital) zoom I could get out of it. so--Is this a member of one of Yellowstone's... Trails for TAPS: Down into the Canyon

There is a trail that parallells the rim of the Canyon of the Yellowstone. I went as far as the junction with Uncle Tom's Trail. Uncle Tom was one of the first to give tours of the Canyon, taking doughty tourists down (and later up again) a series of almost 600 steps, and rope ladders, to get a... Sign in to see full entry.

The advantage of truck camping is there's no tent to bundle up, no camp to... Sign in to see full entry.

Southern Wyoming--did you know it looks like this?

Open grasslands rolling along, divided by miles upon miles of zig-zag split rail fences, and with the layers of Earth's long history revealed layer upon layer! These layers formed in ancient inland seas... but these mountains that thrust up to the west are some of the Earth's very oldest rocks... Sign in to see full entry.

Colorado Springs: Under a Cloud

Driving in under that massive cloud, we expected rain, and we got some, but we were only under the southern edge of the storm, so it was just enough for a good windshield-cleaning, and had stopped before we arrived. Driving up the freeway is no fun, so we took a detour: a much nicer way to the... Sign in to see full entry.
