Let Me Say This About John Roberts...

I watched John Roberts answer questions from the confirmation committee yesterday on C-Span. I saw a very astute and candid man, able to fend off even the most slickly disguised questions regarding his personal and political stances on various issues. He even stonewalled and answered Senator Joe... Sign in to see full entry.

Who Is Kidding Whom?

John Roberts confirmation hearings began today. He likened his role of justice to that of an umpire in a ballgame. He was there to to make sure people played by the rules. He said umpires didn't make the rules, only applied them. Well said, Mr. Roberts. But Senator Joseph Biden of Indiana said later... Sign in to see full entry.

The Body Isn't Even Cold, Dubya

Hell, Chief Justice William Rehnquist is barely a day dead and Dubya nominates a man who hasn't even been appointed to the bench yet. Talk about not letting the man's seat get cold. Talk about a slap in the face of all the other justices who've been sitting for years. Who's he going to nominate for... Sign in to see full entry.

Chief Justice William Rehnquist Dies

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court William Rehnquist died last night of thyroid cancer complications in his home in Arlington, Virginia. He would have been 81 in October. Judge, Jury And Executioner

A couple of days ago, I wrote a post where I posited the idea that stand-offs were becoming more prevalent. Then a story comes from the little town of Sash Texas on the Texas-Oklahoma line: Freddie L. Cranshaw, a man neighbors beleive to be violently disturbed, got into an altercation with another... Rudolph Sentenced For Life Without Parole

It seems to me that Eric Rudolph has gotten off easy with two separate life in prison without parole sentences (one in Alabama, the other in Atlanta). Although he'll be incarcerated in a maximum security cell, he stands to lead a long life, considering that he is only 38 years old. He'll have three... Sign in to see full entry.

Home-schooling Junior Until He's 18

A jury in Cincinnati yesterday found the parents of a 17-year-old boy who viciously assaulted a stabbed a young girl liable for his actions. In fact, they placed 70% of the blame on the parents and ordered them to pay that percentage of a $6.5 million amount awarded to his victim for hospital bills,... Sign in to see full entry.

Talk About Failed Justice

A lot of people do not remember the name Mitchell Johnson. It is an anassuming name and one not likely to raise comment. That is, unless you're from the tiny town of Jonesboro, Arkansas, where Johnson, at the age of 13, and his buddy, Andrew Golden, then 11, walked into Jonesboro Westside Middle... Introducing Best-Selling Author, Ted Kaczynski, The Unabomber

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled yesterday that the government must find a way to sale Ted Kaczynski's writings, including his autobiography, which was seized in 1998 after he was arrested for killing 3 people and wounding 23 in a series of bombings over a two decade...
