Opting Out Of Sentencing Appearance?

A man accused and convicted of murdering several patients at two different hospitals in Pennsylvania and New Jersey over a period of 16 years has told his defense lawyers that he doesn't wish to appear at his sentencing, that they can go ahead without him. Sentencing is where the judge actually... Sign in to see full entry.

No Hate Crimes Law In Georgia

In a 7-0 decision, the Georgia Supreme Court struck down the existing hate crimes law, stating that it was far too broad, that it could be used to prosecute a sports fan for wearing a rival team's cap. Georgia is (was) one of 48 states with a hate crime law, but the only one that did not specify... Sign in to see full entry.

Not Bearing A Cross

Ernesto Vasquez lost his suit against Los Angeles County today when his case was dismissed. Vasquez was trying to stop the County from removing the cross that is on its official seal. First Serial Murderer To Be Released ... Maybe

Ever heard of the Sunday Morning Slasher? Ever heard of Coral Watts? Coral Eugene Watts, to be more specific. Still negative. Well, if the man gets out of prison and murders again you can bet you'll hear more about him and all his crimes than you'll ever really care about. A hue and cry will go up... Unpatriotic Ruling?

If you disagree with the Patriot Act, does that make you treasonous or anti-American or unpatriotic? Hardly; it's just a document. Not to mention in some ways unconstitutional. Take, for instance, the recent Supreme Court decision that part of the Patriot Act that allows the FBI to get information... Sign in to see full entry.

Not Blind, Just Plain Non-Existent

Two prosecuting attorneys in North Carolina, David Hoke and Debra Graves, were reprimanded by the Bar Association for their roles in the sentencing of Alan Gell to death row. It is the lightest penalty they could get, the harshest, of course, would have been disbarment. And disbarment is what they... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, Just Let All Those Poor Young Murderer Go, Won't You, Judge?

A teenager, Lionel Tate, now 17, is being held in jail for violating his probation. He holds the record for the youngest person convicted of murder and given a life sentence. But his case was overturned on appeal and in January young Tate was given one year of house arrest and ten years of... Sign in to see full entry.

The Final Verdict? I Give Up!!

Well, the Kobe Bryant case has ended. The judge ruled at the prosecution's request that the charges be dismissed. And can you blame the woman? Even if her case had merit, and the alleged charges were genuine, can you blame her for wanting the circus that came from her accusations to come to an end?... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, Sweet Release!!

With all the hooplah that surrounds a modern trial, the sensationalizing of said by all forms of media, the constant up-to-the-minute watchdog approach taken by that pathetic group, televized proceedings, the popularity of Court TV, and the ubiquitous internet, we are left with one unassailable fact...
