Design-Driven Behavior
Maybe there was a focus group. Maybe there wasn't. I think it was towards the end of the 1980s. At some point car manufacturers stopped putting locking gas caps on their vehicles in favor of the screw-on ratcheting type. Instead of thinking hey someone might siphon gas out of my tank, we bought the...

One-off Regret
According to stories in The Guardian and timesonline.co.uk, Bush regrets his legacy as a man who wanted war. He says his language during the run-up to war in Iraq created the impression worldwide that he was anxious for war. Ya think? I have seen situations where something terrible happens and the...

The Illusion of Safety II
There is a banner ad I saw that says "Would You Feel Safe With McCain as President." Then it has a yes and a no button and something about enter to win $50 grand. While this may be linked to some opinion poll it is most likely a way to get your personal info into a database and then sell it around...

The Bible and Human Potential
This is an idea that may get called new-agey or heretical or something like that. I'm fully aware of that and I no longer care. A heretic is someone with a question other people are afraid to ask or hear the answer to. The world is changing and we have an opportunity to be a part of that or be...

The stated reason is that they want to see how we arrive at a particular answer to make sure we're applying what we're being taught and not making a good guess or copying. Every now and then you get a kid...

An evil notion
Thirty years ago when I started having dealings with Evangelicals I was at a stripmall talking with a man who had been "witnessing" to me. I don't remember what he was talking about at that moment. What I do recall is that at some point I asked him what he meant by one of the things he said. Sorry....

Restoration needed
It didn't have to be this way. We could have changed the focus of the branches of government put in place to protect and defend the people without creating this growing atmosphere of lock-step. But that assumes that protection and defense have been the true aims of the politicians.

Disconnect
I was made to understand something and I'd like to explain. It appears that some of us have been making the same mistake we did over 30 years ago when the troops returned from Viet Nam. I thought the "Support the Troops" movement had to do with that and not treating them like crap when they come...

A Humor Moment
I know I've been posting a lot of grim stuff lately and you should expect to see more of that tomorrow. But I thought of a creative way to piss off the police if I ever get arrested that might actually make them laugh at the same time. When you get arrested, as they're carrying you off in the squad...

Signage
If gas prices ever went above $9.999/gal we'd need narrower numbers or wider signs.
