Do they still do dictation at school? I didn't know that. Posted by Ca88andra on November 18, 2005 at 2:08 AM ( permalink ) Yes Ca88i, I do anyway. Dictation requires children, or anyone, to reproduce the sounds they hear, on paper. That means, and we take this for granted those of who already read... Sign in to see full entry.

I mutilated the copy of readings for cloze I replaced every nth word.......
Just a quick word about my day. We spent the first half hour singing again, and I explained even more explicitly, the need for correct pronunciation. I remember our pronunciation textbook at ISU, so many teachers of ESL never get to this topic, because there is so much to squeeze in. There's... Sign in to see full entry.
It will keep the lions at bay, and keep me from being sent to Siberia....
I should really tell about my day yesterday (Wednesday). I told you how I was visited by my supervisor who encouraged me to bring back a few of the more creative activities we used to do in my other schools. I have been finding them in my archived files at school and they are good. Yesterday, I took... Sign in to see full entry.

John Denver Was One Heck of a Singer-Songwriter, But He Couldn't Read
for squat, evidenced by his sudden death. I really love John Denver's music. Maybe that makes me a square, but, hey, I grew up during the time of his prolific period. I loved the music, guitar-based, very folksy, with a country flavor. He helped to pave the way for mainstream acceptance of a... Sign in to see full entry.

Karen Carpenter, In Spite of Her Imperfect Life, Got Me Through School.
Her Songs Expressed everything in my heart that I was not able to express myself. Her smooth, sexy female strength let me know that there was life out there. Let me know that love was a real thing and maybe, just maybe, there might be enough left for me. I was not expecting perfection from an... Sign in to see full entry.

They make me swear that I won't help any of the other candidates. I swear
Today I commented that I was glad I didn't have to keep time management charts. What a busy day: 1. I get to school early and find out by reading the bulletin that I am expected in the gym by 7:10 for early hall duty. Good thing I am early as I have had time to set up my room. HAWK Talk is a circle... Sign in to see full entry.

To Tapsel-Teerie -- About One Very Special Student...................
Probably the most challenging and rewarding student I have met this year is a boy I have called "Joseph" in this space. He was one of the furthest behind in reading and writing. A boy from Africa, doomed to the ESL classroom for the first three years of his stay in America, where they used Second... Sign in to see full entry.

"Proof"! Best movie I've seen since "Butterfield Eight"!..................
I saw "Proof" last night. Anthony Hopkins and whatsername. Gwyneth Partrow. Best movie I've seen since "Butterfield Eight"! It seems a man who revolutionized the study of mathematics twice by the age of twenty-two, was felled by a severe mental illness. His history is that he started getting sick at... Harry Potter serves a purpose: not a Disney cartoon, nor even Hanna-Barbera
My favorite Shakespearian play was "King Lear". I think it reminded me so much of my father. Always roaring against the storm. Some of us have learned calm in the bureaucracy, many of us have developed serenity -- but it took decades to cultivate. Lear was blind to the goodness and fidelity of his... Several disturbing things about the latest Harry Potter book, Half blood
I have noticed several disturbing things about the latest Harry Potter book, Half blood Prince. Evidently, in HP#5, the father of Draco Malfoy, one of Harry's classmates, is killed. Now Draco has always been Harry's antagonist. He teases him when he has problems, he has a group of his own who are... Sign in to see full entry.
