Keep going!

Same old-same old. I know there are a lot of people who would love to be able to say things are going on just the same. When Mother and I visited the hospital recently, we saw people who would have loved to be able to go back to their old lives. I have few things to grumble about. The money is good, the work is good, our health is holding up and even the weather has improved. But I wish we had a clear breakthrough. A clear passage to say we were comfortable enough, not to worry. Maybe it will... Sign in to see full entry.

Changing phones

I have had the same mobile for years, but the 3G network is to end soon and I have to switch over to the new phone. The bank is the most important, and thank God that all went well. But the business account (Etoro) is not so smooth. I'll get it sorted out in the end, but what a palaver to make the world know that your number had changed? I did try swapping the number between phones, but this has proved a little tough than finding the Holy Grail. So I gave up. Sign in to see full entry.

Pony Limping

Mother's pony: CJ had developed a slight limp over the past few days. He has his feet dome by the farrier, and I think he's just getting used to the new feeling. At least I hope its nothing serious. We give him bute as an anti-inflammatory drug, but we have few left and I want to find a herbal alternative. The nearest I can find in Devil's claw, but at least we can buy that from Amazon. Radio

I've been asked to complete a survey on listening to the radio. I only listen to 2 stations: BBC Radio 4 and Golden hits radio. I used to listen to Radio 2 for most of the day, but it started to annoy me. So I switched to Golden Hits as it has less talking. Radio 4 is just on in the kitchen; I can take it or leave it. When I worked at the computer all day, Radio 2 was on most of the time, but I have real doubts about the BBC. Steve. Sign in to see full entry.

Wake up early.

One of the few advantages I have these days, is the ability to wake up early and get things done. I was down the fields looking after Mother's horse at 6 am this morning. His stable was cleaned and CJ was put out in the paddock. I even had a chance to clean the house. This leaves me free to get things done for the rest of the day. When I was younger I was always tired. It might have had something to do with drinking, which I don't do now. But my point is that you get ahead of the game, so no... Sign in to see full entry.

Community

We share a communal area at the back of our houses which we all park on. No one really owns it and over the years people have built sheds and even chicken huts on it. When we have a family day, like today, everyone mixes with anyone. Dogs run around and kids play. We feel we are lucky in the village to have this where the rest don't. Everyone gets on with everyone. But I don't get the impression other neighbours are the same. We don't live in each other's pockets and I would hate to go back to... Sign in to see full entry.

Groundhog Year.

One idea for ending my novel would be to have the people living in the virtual world have a groundhog day that would last 10-20 years. Think about the film and then think what would happen in you could reset the clock and go back to being 18 years old. Then live the next 20 years the way you remember it. But this time you would iron out all the mistakes. Sign in to see full entry.

Chat and A.I.

I am fascinated by the latest advances in artificial intelligence. My own interest is in fiction. I'm trying to finish a novel where the main players all live in a fake world, but it's better than their real one. To that end, AI would feature highly. But the real reason is in artificial consciousness. What if we could transfer our very soles into the machine? Most people would think this is blasphemy, but I'm beginning to think it's our only way out of the mess we call the world. Sign in to see full entry.

Blood Test

Have to take Mother for a blood test today. The doctors seem more worried about keeping you out of their car park than seeing the patients. Sign in to see full entry.

Dentist

Visit to the Dentist today. I'm lucky to have my own teeth at 62, but I live in fear of the man drilling into my head. At least the weather is nice. Sign in to see full entry.
