We have concentrated upon heresy in these articles solely for the purpose of brevity; but it must be remembered that the Inquisition awarded merciless punishments for other crimes. These included incest, adultery, bigamy, homosexuality and perjury ( dealt with particularly severely when committed during an Inquisition inquiry, no doubt for the embarrassment that it caused the Inquisitors ), along with a whole host of secular crimes.
