as for the weekend..

Is it possible to create an impression of one's day through references to youtube videos. Let's see, this weekend I shall eat VEGEMITE on toast for breakfast and watch some of THIS and this might lead me to sing THIS in a moment of nostalgia. Well of course it would be quicker on broadband but you... Sign in to see full entry.

a heart breaking suburban loss

Sadly the local video rental place is closing down. I wandered down on my day off yesterday thinking of having another look at the latest Bond movie and the place was filled with a ravaging horde of bargain shoppers clambering through b-grade movies, smashing their prams into each other and grabbing... feed me

It's the ANZAC day holiday, a veterans' memorial day, when various services are carried out around Australia and New Zealand including the Dawn Service. It's an anniversary of the landing of Australia and New Zealand troops at a place called Gallipoli in Turkey in the early period of the First World... Sign in to see full entry.

the end of dry times?

Last night the sky was cracked open by lightning and it's been raining ever since. The country has been so badly in droubt that the irrigation supply to one of our main farming areas will have to be cut off in 40 days if there isn't enough rain. City water supplies are dwindling across the country.... Sign in to see full entry.

Cockatoo Island

I went across to Cockatoo Island yesterday: the largest island in Sydney Harbour and now openned up for the public. I mainly went because it offered some great images for photography: old workshops where the ships of the South West Pacific were repaired during the Second World War; sandstone... interesting

Interesting responses to the last post. Maybe I wasn't clear. to be affected or not to be

Today I've been wondering about the idea that nature abhors a vacuum. What spurred me on in my considerations is the fact that my day to day work life has been fairly uneventful. I go to the office each day with an almost peaceful sense of indifference. It's like I've switched the emotional button... Sign in to see full entry.

sweating and surging like a lion

It was one of those uneventful Tuesdays. Someone asked me "how I was going?" as in "how are you going looking for a better job?" and I felt myself sliding from my anaesthetised sense of not-expecting-anything so just going along with what is...into the place of "blah" for the rest of the day. Anyway... Sign in to see full entry.

why do we blog?

The Saturday paper was as thick as usual this morning: car and real estate advertisements as thick as telephone directories; articles largely designed to promote about to be released movies or plays or exhibitions; sports analysis and then the general interest articles. In the midst of it all was an... Sign in to see full entry.

the silver lining to an impending winter

Is there anything more pleasant than a Friday spent far from the confines of a workplace office? Oh joyous day! Oh vibrant sunrise breaking through the clouds! There are certain consolations that come with the Winter months: in Sydney these months tend to coincide with various festivals: the Sydney... Sign in to see full entry.
