Stay the Course???? = Insanity

Mr. President, Sir: The course is not working! Why do you think that adding more terror to the lives of our military and their families, and the thousands of innocents around the globe, will have anything to do with ending terror? Sir, if a billion people around the world said no to staying the course, would you reconsider? If you were indicted by the World Court for war crimes, would you reconsider? If civil war starts in Iraq, will you reconsider? If 50,000 more troops come home maimed or in a... Sign in to see full entry.

How About that Buddha

Prayer for Freedom From Suffering May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the powerless find power, and may people think of befriending one another. May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness-- the children, the aged, the unprotected-- be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood. - The Buddha That my dear... Wisdom is not Limited to One Book

This is a loving invitation to all who would find world peace to be a reality. Open your heart by taking three deep and god-surrendering breaths. Then ask yourself this question: Is it not easy to believe that the Infinite One would offer wisdom to all times and ages and cultures? Now three more surrendering breaths. Now read the following from the Hindu Upanishads: The sages call it Akshara, the Imperishable. It is neither big nor small, neither long nor short, neither hot nor cold, neither... Tuning in and Lighting Up with My Crow Guides

"Holy Smoke, Batman!" And so another adventure begins for the schizoid hero, Robe-man. His alarm still echoing those words in his ear, Robe-man arises and after a few perfunctory ablutions, steps into the morning air naked as a jaybird. The crows greeted his presence, and he noted their conversation, proud to know them as power allies. A few minutes in the damp cool air convinced him to retreat inside for his robe. When he returned, Robe-man began his practices in earnest, with only three... Sign in to see full entry.

If There is No Free Lunch, How about a Free Breakfast

I have had a few free lunches, dinners and breakfasts in my life, as, I suspect, have you. Nevertheless, even when they come our way, we are suspicious. Certainly, unless such a meal is provided by a relative or very close friend, we suspect that there may well be an ulterior motive, and for good reasons. We have learned from the school of hard knocks that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is! In the world of human beings, wariness is next to Godliness. However, consider with me, just... OK, I Confess, I am poorer in this moment than

a church mouse. It's a long story, but suffice it to say that I am not sitting by idly in this state. In addition to the several pennies I will be earning this night because YOU have chosen to read this, I have a plan. It is the best plan I could come up with on short notice and given the circumstance that I am here in Ohio with no vehicle visiting my older sister for my annual after-Christmas family reunion time. Some of you, no doubt, have already read my master plan to get some of the... Sign in to see full entry.

The Theology of Superheros

I heard a sermon yesterday morning based on a scripture from Isaiah 42:1-9. You can read the passage at the end of this blog ( I recommend reading it now). The minister opened his remarks by talking about how popular and successful superhero movies are. He called this the theology of the superhero. Witness the success of Spiderman, Batman, Superman, X-men, and on and on. The plots of these movies have many common threads including the basic plot in which evil is overcome by the superhero through... Sign in to see full entry.

Is Anyone writing about the Tsunami or Is that Old News Already?

Dear Bloggers, I have not given up hope that this Tsunami could change the nature of the way humans relate to each other around the planet. I have questions about this whole mess. Why, in this age of satellite communications and instant earthquake detection, were more people not warned? It is a commentary on all of us on this planet that we want still, to spend our money on bombs and armies and other tools of fear and destruction rather than things to help end human suffering around the world....
