Where Would You Go?

So yesterday, my girl (well one of them anyway), asks me "If you could go anywhere in the whole wide world, where would it be?" Well, I was a bit surprised that she even had to ask me. I thought she knew me a little bit better, but that's ok. I went ahead and answered her anyway, gauging her reaction as I spoke. "I would gather up a hundred books I've been wanting to read, " I said (keep in mind that my 12 year old Satra hates anything to do with reading), "and enough food and water to last 6... Bug

Ugh-the stomach flu hit during the middle of the night, and I had to drag myself to work for 6 a.m. What timing. I work in the Microbiology Lab of a Children's Hospital, so it was no fun having to "dig around" in body fluids (part of my job) while trying to deal with an upset stomach. Just one of the downsides of the job. Thankfully, it was only a 24 hour bug and I am back on track today. Sign in to see full entry.

A Better Day

Things are better today. We usually go ice skating but decided not to, due to recovering from coughs and fevers. But we got a lot of school work done. The sun is out, its in the 50's and I have a feeling that our recent blah-ness has been due to gloomy, winter weather. An email from my very part time job today has my mind reeling. A co worker is quitting and do I want to pick up her hours? I would be jumping from 8 hours a week to 24 hours a week. Doesn't sound like much, but with 5 kids,... Sign in to see full entry.

Lego Prison

I am so tired today. Coming down from the high of painting maybe? All of us are blah about schoolwork. So, I assigned my 12 year old daughter and 9 year old son a project with their legos. I told them to design a prison (that was the first thing that popped into my mind). They were excited about that! Who wouldn't choose legos over math worksheets? They worked for a good hour and a half and then called me in to see it. A beautiful job! I should probably get a picture and post it here. They had... Sign in to see full entry.

Ahhhhh, Winterlake Blue!

The living room is now Winterlake blue (I love the name of that color...I keep saying it over and over again!). The painting went well except for two of the kids being sick over the weekend, but they just rested, read books, played computer. At one point, our big, fat cat went down the vent (we had the guard off) and we all panicked and screamed until he sauntered back up (looking fine and proud of himself, but very dirty!). By 10:00 last night, we had all furniture put back, all curtains hung,... Sign in to see full entry.

Painting and Chocolate

The painting is underway, but not without a few hitches...the main one being that my 2 youngest have coughs and fevers. They have been quite subdued, but it still makes it hard. I keep flip flopping from painting to giving out Motrin and TLC. Quite a juggling act. As far as the painting...wow! It is coming along but more slowly then we thought. And that nice Winterlake blue over the white that was there is beautiful, but at least 2 coats are going to be needed and we haven't even made it around... Sign in to see full entry.

Countdown to the Painting Marathon

Ok, a day left before the painting marathon begins. We will start Friday morning at 8 a.m. and work into the night and continue on through the weekend. Tomorrow, we have to move everything from the living room to the basement and then move the furniture to the middle of the room and throw the drop cloths. The kids are already complaining. We told them they can come back and forth and help as they like, so that did cut down on some of the complaining. I'm not sure if they were thinking we were... Sign in to see full entry.

The Never Ending Colors

So for the kitchen, we decided on the same green we are using in the dining room. But for the top half of the kitchen walls, we will add a pretty, light mauve. The border is a dark green with some light and dark mauve and the kitchen counters are a light blue with subtle pink running through them. My husband keeps shaking his head as if saying, "I can't believe I got talked into this." I DID let him pick out our bedroom color though...and do you believe he picked yellow! Oh my gosh-I hope it... Sign in to see full entry.

Colors, Colors, Colors!

My husband has been wanting to paint the entire inside of the house. For the last year, he has ben mentioning it, and I have been dragging my feet. Last November I finally said, "After Christmas...I promise." So, guess what? It is after Christmas and I have a vow to keep. However, the thought of just repainting everything over again in white (yes, my husband is one of those people who loves bland, neutral colors) was pulling my emotional state into the pits. As much as I can appreciate the... Sign in to see full entry.

Water

I knew a dentist who had the most energetic, positive staff that I have ever met! I always wondered at his secret. Was he just a really fun, outgoing, enthusiastic doctor to work for, or was there something "behind the scenes" that I didn't know about? I finally found out from a friend that this dentist required (yes, required) his staff to drink 48-64 oz of water in a working day. Ok, so that made me go and research the benefits of water, and I found that yes, indeed, it can boost your energy... Sign in to see full entry.
