A Crazy Day Indeed

I worked until 7:00pm to avoid the heat. At about 4:00pm I heard that the power was out in most of the inner suburbs. The fires in the north have destroyed some of the infrastructure that distributes the power around and across states. At 7:00pm I walked out into a hot wind. The temperature was... Small attempts at self sabotage

I've done it. I've sent off my poem Peace 2007 to two different editors with self addressed stamped envelopes inside. I'm not sure why you can't send poems via e-mail it could be so much easier. Still I bought two A4 envelopes, put the poems in and and addressed them appropriately. I sealed up one... Sign in to see full entry.

So who wants to be in a film?

Sometimes life shifts up a gear and starts to take some exciting turns. That seems to be happening in my life at the moment. I had got into a bit of a rut last year where with my work, parenting and socialising in my spare time I was just over tired and not really thinking about or following my... Say cheese ! PLEASE!

This year my chrissie present to myself was a digital camera. They've finally become cheap enough to slip one into my expenses for the month. For the past couple of years I've been using my phone camera. I wasn't particularly looking for a camera with a phone but when I dropped my old one the... Sign in to see full entry.

Smoke

The city is covered in smoke from the bushfires. We could smell smoke in the air conditioning today which was unpleasant. The wind direction was blowing the smoke right onto the city. Australia is a harsh country to live in, particularly if you live in the country. The bushfires are out of control... Sign in to see full entry.

The Cicada

The first time I heard cicadas I thought that something was wrong with the electricity in the old flat I was sharing at the time. Where I grew up we didn't have cicadas, just the odd cricket. if you aren't familiar with their screeching it can be quite a puzzle. It was fun finding pictures on the... Sign in to see full entry.

Drip, drip stop!

We are in for a long, dry summer. Drought and bushfire are two things that I've grown up with. Although my upbringing was a suburban one, the bush was and is never far away. One of my first memories is of fire, a terrible fire that ripped through my state and caused death and devastation to people... Sign in to see full entry.

Seductive pain and roller poles

Every muscle in my back and shoulders is aching. I spent yesterday pushing the roller pole up and down, up and down the walls. My painting is almost finished. There are just a couple of trims to touch up and its done. The room calls to me, just a few more licks of paint. I stand on the step ladder... Sign in to see full entry.

My Ecclectic Reading Collection

I've almost always been a book worm. My ecclectic collection of mainly paperbacks although not huge has always interested my friends. Over the years it has dimished somewhat, particularly since the birth of my daugher. I 've had a long drought for the last few years when i ahven't read much at all.... Sign in to see full entry.
