A Very Soggy City

If you live in Canada and watch the national news, you've likely seen my fine, soggy city. Not sure if we're getting coverage in other places, as I have been focused entirely on local news for a few days now. Southern Alberta has seen some of the worst flooding in our history. It's been bad in a lot... Sign in to see full entry.

Underestimating Mother Nature

It turns out I was wrong about the storm we were expecting - it was much worse. Calgary has entered into a state of emergency. They have announced mandatory evacuation in more than a dozen city communities. Our news station was included in the evacuation, so I haven't heard an update in a while.... Grant me freedom, and protect me from myself!

UtahJay and I tend to view the world differently, in just about every instance we've discussed so far. I think it`s a good thing – it allows for open discussion on a variety of perspectives, and opens the floor for others to share their own views. Discussion of an issue – any issue – is healthy,... Stormy Skies

We are under a storm warning - nothing major, just a bit of thunder and lightening and some heavy rain. The sky has been cloudy all day, with rain throughout the city, but I don't think we came close to the expected 100mm (that's almost 4 inches). They say the worst is still to come, with the full... Burning Bra's in the Modern World

Naut recently posted about the horrible, violent and oppressive treatment of Muslim women living under Islamic Law. It was an excellent post – but then, I've come to expect nothing less than excellence from Naut. One thing, though, has been nagging me. Naut began his post by lamenting the fact that... The Eggs Benedict did not go quite according to plan. I managed to poach the eggs properly the old fashioned way, in a pot of boiling water. Hubby would insist that I point out the silliness of this - we have an egg poacher, with the little cups specifically designed for making perfect eggs. There... Sign in to see full entry.

Chef Mia

This morning I am attempting Eggs Benedict for breakfast. From Scratch. Hubby loved Eggs Benedict, but I've never made the hollandaise before. It's a picky, technical sauce, but I think I can do it. If not, I've got packaged hollandaise in the pantry that will have to do. I make breakfast every day... Sign in to see full entry.

Not today, Pat!

I haven’t posted anything for a couple of days, not because I had nothing to say but because I didn't know where to start. I logged in with an idea, all set to write. But before I could make it to the “Write” button, I’d spot an update from Pat_B, whose stories are enthralling and demand immediate... Sign in to see full entry.

Monopoly Empire - Phase 1

It's official - we bought a house! Hubby went through the inspection last week (I was stuck at work so couldn't be there), on Tuesday. Our deadline to make a decision and waive the condition was Wednesday morning. Everything would have been sorted out much sooner, but some things popped up in the... Sign in to see full entry.

Minority Report

There's been an awful lot of talk about the NSA and Verizon over the past couple of days. My facebook feed is littered with outraged posts from Canadian and American's alike. Even here on Blogit, it's a hot topic. Big Brother is watching, with the help of service giant Verizon. I heard the news,... Sign in to see full entry.
