Recovery from an Episode of Mania

Recovery from an episode of Mania appears to be the same each time. Since Brenda's mania was so long and difficult, so is her time of recovery. She is now in the apathy stage. It isn't quite as bad as full blown depression because she is taking medication, but she appears to be living under a cloud.... Sign in to see full entry.

Fear of Failure

This last year my daughter Brenda was manic from last summer through January. It was very painful. She will graduate from community college this summer. She needs to go to the university but she's afraid. She is very shy and doesn't talk to people. It can take her a long time to make friends. She... Sign in to see full entry.

Writer's Block

One of the effects of recovering from Mania is severe writer's block. I have many theories as to the cause, but I think that the reason is lack of confidence and that her intellectual ability hasn't been restored yet. There is a process of recovery and writer's block seems to be a part of it.... Sign in to see full entry.

My Daughters's Favorite Thing is Food.

When my daughters were small I couldn't bribe them by paying them, I couldn't punish them by making them stay in their rooms. The only thing that motivated them was food. They would clean their rooms, do other work, finish their homework, whatever if you gave them food. What they most wanted is not... Sign in to see full entry.

My daughter is very serious.

But now that we have two male housemates who are too old to take seriously but young enough to flirt with, she is enjoying life immensely. The two men are very funny and tease each other and her all the time. It makes it delightful to hear her laugh all the time. Her sister's boyfriend loves to come... Sign in to see full entry.

A generation Y view of the U.N.

If you listen to NPR, then United Nations is every other word. My daughter is writing a paper for College Freshman English about the U.N. and one of her assignments is to interview twelve people in her college class about the United Nations. Only two of the twelve knew anything at all about it. I... Sign in to see full entry.

My grandchildren and my daughters.

Yesterday I babysat my grandson. He wanted to play with my daughters, but he couldn't. They both had homework. They never got along with children before. Since they were the youngest they didn't feel like the understood them. Then after they were sick, there was too much else going on. But now, they... Sign in to see full entry.

Kelly goes to college out of town.

Kelly, her boyfriend, and I are visiting the college she'll attend next year. I paid the deposits for her dorm room and tuition, to secure her place. The college was on spring break but I'll go to an open house for parents in two weeks. Maybe we can find out the name of the psychiatrist and get... Sign in to see full entry.

Growing up.

Brenda is very shy and quiet and is worried that she won't make it away from home. However, she is becoming more responsible and more like her own age. She helped me make dinner last night as soon as we got home. We spent most of the day together--but that was good for me. Kelly on the otherhand... Sign in to see full entry.

My daughters are finally starting to grow up.

Brenda cooked dinner on Sunday night because the cook for that night called and said he was stuck on the freeway. She heated all the leftovers and we had enough. Our guests didn't mind because they'd never had it the first time. She did this without anyone asking her to do it. Her sister, Kelly... Sign in to see full entry.
