Ojiichan means grandfather. It is casual, compared to the more proper Ojiisama or formal sofu. Ojiichan is what we call my father-in-law and today is his 85th birthday. It is also his third year living with us. I got the cake and dinner ready and have a little time to blog. I have always liked my... Sign in to see full entry.

Something Positive
The day where things start going back to the routine, that would be today. I have tomorrow left before I start back to work, but today feels like back to reality. Jan third found hubby and I on our own so we went to lunch and a drive. You are supposed to be able to see Mt. Fuji behind us, but the... Sign in to see full entry.

The First Light of the New Year 2
I stood outside starting just at dawn, January first, in the biting wind with those pictures in mind. I was in my flimsey pajamas with only a light down vest to keep me warm. I always try to catch the first light of a New Year, no matter if I shoot it or not. There is just something about it. my... Sign in to see full entry.

Discontented and Guilty
Today I had an oral test to give, one of three in the next three days. This is to second year Jr. high girls, I guess they are called second year middle schoolers or grade eight? A bunch of 13 year olds anyway. Today's 14 students started out with Mana. This girl is a very serious, earnest student... Sign in to see full entry.

Tis' the Season
Usually said about Christmas, a little early for that. But very late when refering to snow, it is the season for snow, specifically, snow on Mt. Fuji... there was none up until three days ago. As you can see, she, he, it, is bare. (In Japanese, mountains have no gender, so refer to her as you wish)... Sign in to see full entry.

Searching
We are all searching for something..., our E is in search of a school, one for next year, she is graduating in March. We've been to two open campuses. This was Atami two weeks ago, where we visited the International Pet Academy. Atami is a seaside resort town on the way to Tokyo from here. This is... Sign in to see full entry.

09/09/09
That's the date today! I am no numerologist or anything, and I am usually the one saying, 'so what?'... but isn't that kinda cool? I found this about it on MSN. Modern numerologists - who operate outside the realm of real science - believe that mystical significance or vibrations can be assigned to... Sign in to see full entry.

Shoes!
For lack of anything better to blog... Aren't these cute? They were only 1980 yen!! Move a decimal point over two spaces, and you have it, roughly, in US dollars. I didn't tell anyone, ahem, hubby, that I bought them as, well, he thinks I did enough shopping on my trip and even at that smashing... Sign in to see full entry.

Anniversary Special
We walked accross that bridge, intending to go to an izakaya, a Japanese pub-like place which Hubby knew of. On a whim, we decided to go out for our 21st wedding anniversary last night. The actual date was last Saturday, but Hubby had his soccer match then, so we put it off. With Hubby working all... Sign in to see full entry.
