Howdy, Giants! Let's Hear it for Organized Talent! - Jimmy Rod's Best Shot

This is more of a congratulations story than an analysis. The Giants have intentionally or accidentally "gone Harbaugh." If you're a 49er fan you know what I mean. No Zito-Panic. Watch out for the green match heads. They don't go out as fast.

There's a subtle rhythm to the handling of fire. I just bought a box of book matches with green match heads. The red matches go dead-black a few seconds after you blow out the flame. The green matches hang onto their glowing ember for eight seconds or more. If you're in the habit of tossing semi-hot matches, watch out that the green ones don't jump up and " bite you in the ass." Stanford's 2012 NIT Team Much Different than the 1991 Champion

This Stanford hoop edition is "going-up!" The 1991 team was headed down. The NIT championship was real fun but Adam Keefe's dazzling aura would be in the NBA by 1992. Even the "Aussie Jaw," Andrew Vlahov would be back with the "roos" by then. The NIT Champion Cardinal had become an instant "rebuilding project." Present day Cardinal hoop is looking great. Did you see the security film of Zimmerman (or whatever his real name is) arriving at the Sanford Police station. The Police kiss this possible murderers ass, like they're related to the guy. Like they know him. From what I know of law enforcement, the officers in that situation are normally "all over" this possible murderer. Instead, they allow the suspect to get behind them. Adam Keefe and Andrew Vlahov brought the muscle. John Patrick and Kenny Ammann "rained" the threes as the Cardinal took the title. It was their first nationally based hoop title in a half century. Stanford's NIT run to the 1991 Championship with an Aussie Touch

It's one of my favorite Stanford stories. The great Adam Keefe wasn't going to be enough to win five in a row. Then a 6'7", 250-pound Crocodile Dundee turned into a poor man's Rick Barry. Andrew Vlahov, a generally mediocre free throw shooter, under championship pressure turned great at the line. It was a big reason why Stanford won the title. Another reason was Vlahov's toughness. Every set of announcers seem to find it necessary to rag on the Giant's "station to station" offense. That offense just handed the San Francisco fans their very first "rings." Stanford Hoop Just Won't Quit, Outlasts Illinois State in Overtime Classic

"That was a game and a half!" For most of the game, Illinois State " couldn't miss." ISU left their hot shooters in. Stanford lost their small, persistent lead in the second half and fell nine points behind. They somehow matched their white hot shooting opponents fire power well enough to survive, 92-88. I lived along Ventura Highway for a few years. There are lyrics in the song "...alligator lizards in the air..." I found myself living by Ventura Highway for awhile.
