Relationship Complaint Department

How could she do that? What was she thinking? How can I respond with higher love? How can fear be overhealed by love? What is the most hurtful thing you could say to a man who loves you so much he finished his work and drove thirty miles to help you because you said you were overwhelmed with work, and awkwardly complained about standing around? How about? "Well why don't you just get out of my store and go on home... i do not want to play with anymore today (or this weekend as well)!" What was... Sign in to see full entry.

An Allegory Continued - Example of Using the Gift of the Blessing

Let's use the recent events in Egypt: Choose to Bless the Victims (on all sides) Choose to Bless the Perpetrators Choose to bless all who have witnessed these events. It is just that simple. Sign in to see full entry.

Allegory Continues

At this point it must suffice to let you know that she was right, 'I could not believe her story.' More, I dare not say for fear of giving away her identity by some quirky detail revealed in its telling. I will tell you this: I felt I had to refund her missed appointment fee. She clearly could not have let me know she was going to miss the appointment and the reasons were just as clearly out of her control. The next fifty minutes were spent in 'trauma recovery' Humans appear to be unique in... Sign in to see full entry.

The Allegory Continues - Next week rolls around

Next came quickly and went as fast as it came. She did not show up for her appointment. Neither did she call or send any message. Should I worry? (Ha, that is funny....) Whoops, let's see... is there anything I can do about it in this moment? Yes, I could call her. But, is it my responsibility to contact her or hers (as I suspect) to call me? So no, in this moment, there is nothing to do. It's not my problem. And so I dismissed wondering any more as to why she missed her appointment. Wait! There... Sign in to see full entry.

The Continuing Allegory- suggestions for overcoming fear

This is what I suggested to her in our last session: The worry Game - every time you have a worry, write it down on a peace of paper. Then symbolically turn it over to the Universe by burning it. When and if it comes up again, repeat the process, saying something like: "I turn this worry over to the Universe (use your own concept here)" Keep repeating this when it comes up again until it has no emotional charge and you can dismiss it easily. Realize that if there is nothing you can do about your... Sign in to see full entry.

The Continuing Allegory

I had to go out of town the next week, so I did not see her at all. Thankfully, she did not call either. Our second appointment went very well (that is to say much progress was made). Without revealing any specific content, let me just say that she opened up to my ministrations an a deep way. There was moment in our encounter where our eyes met and I shared the depth of her fears. Now I could see that she was depending on her fears to protect her from intimacy and success. As long as she... Sign in to see full entry.

A Short Story (allegory) Con't.

(con't) My advice is: If there is something you can do about your problem in this moment, do it. Otherwise if you can do nothing in this moment, it is not your problem. For example, my checking account was overdrawn earlier this month. Until my social security check is automatically deposited, there was nothing I could do about it, so I ignored my balance and let my worry go. On one level worry expresses a lack of faith and trust in God and God’s goodness and mercy towards us. I like to work... Sign in to see full entry.

A Short Story (allegory) Con't.

Con’t - Tuesday rolled around…. she appeared at my office right on time and we began our first session. I was humbled and awed by the story she unfolded. I could feel my own story vibrating in sympathetic harmonic. My professional vows prevent me from sharing any more detail, but suffice it to say that her childhood was anything but easy. She spun out a story of worries that captured my rapt attention until my beeper sounded the end of the session. Usually, my approach means I just listen and... Sign in to see full entry.

Short Story (it's an allegory)

I am choosing to depart from my story for a few moments. I want to speak as a professional mental/emotional and spiritual counselor. Perhaps I am choosing to do this too early in my narrative, but I confess that I have my reasons which, if my story is told well enough, should become clear to the reader at the end. Here is my question: what is it about human nature or the nature of worries that causes us to cling to them so tenaciously? Any feedback? Sign in to see full entry.

A Short Story (allegory) Con't.

Con't My screening questions revealed that she wondered about obsessive worrying because her partner has brought home the new worry zapper and she had refused to try it. “He accused me of being addicted to worry,” she said with a tone of righteous indignation. “Are you?”, I inquired. There was a long pause. “Well, I do worry a lot,” she said sheepishly. “Would you give it up, if you knew how?” I inquired. Another long pause..... “I think so,” she finally confessed. “Well then, perhaps we aught... Sign in to see full entry.
