A Deep and Weary Sigh of Relief...

While the squabbling goes on in a few parts of the country, mostly since Election Day, quiet has fallen over the land... The devastations of wildfire and gunfire still break the heart, but in one thing I am much relieved: America is not dead, not wholly given over to the smugly ignorant, the cruel, the criminally greedy. I relax some, knowing that I live amont a people who reject that kind of nation, who will make a fight of it, to recover the America that was once the leader of the world. There... Suppression

In North Carolina, the Secretary of State, who happens to be running for Governor, has purged 53,000 potential voters from the registration rolls. Most of them, 70%, are black. In North Dakota, a law now requires that you provide a street address in order to register to vote. The Post Office has, for years, only assigned PO Boxes to Native Americans who live on reservations, so this new requirement disenfranchises voters in an election in which a Native American woman is running for high office.... Living in the jungle

A few years ago I had the opportunity to hang out for a while in a tropical jungle. It was so lush and lovely, filled with fresh new greens unfolding, brilliant flowers like gems... and everywhere, also, the dead and dying leaves, the old flowers faded and blown... I realized, a real live jungle has a constant current of life unfolding, stretching, being grand, then aging towards the inevitable decay and return to the soil.
