I've always loved it that my Mom and Dad went the extra mile to teach us (seven of us) to love learning and to crave learning. It made life so much fun.

Good educators need good administrators, who need funding from sources that are child-centered. I loved learning as a child and I still love learning. It was something innate in everyone, I thought. Not so, I learned. Good post.

Re: sassyass,
Agreed, children sponge up what they see in their parents, whether the parents do and demonstrate things intentionally or not. But the whole educational system in this country needs drastic fixing. Finland has a great model that is working really well!

I currently have two school aged grandchildren. One loves learning, one does not. I have always felt that it comes down to how the parent's treat the importance of homework and school in general, and if the child has a teacher who is approachable and loves teaching.
