A dreadful scream in the late hours of the night...
It kept on for some time, not a human sound, not any kind of cat, not a dog... It went on for maybe 10 minutes, rough and high-pitched but not exactly a growl or snarl, it was a scream that seemed to me to have anger and anguish in it! Once, it seemed to recede, as if it was running or being carried away, then came back, loud and close. The street is dark, too dark to see anything.
