It has been a day of crawling under the house, moving some cement blocks around, and then jacking the place up a half of an inch. We began to concentrate on the northwest corner, where the main beam was not in the best condition. Once we worked our way to the very corner, we began to raise it up a... Sign in to see full entry.

I finally convinced my monitor to 'come aboard' this morning, but I will have to buy a new one real soon. I'm not sure why this one decided it wanted to take the day off yesterday, but it did it once; it will most assuredly do it again. While yesterday was a busy day, I had set aside an hour to work... I may have just blown a monitor. I left five of them in Newberry, but not a single spare here. Hmmm. This could be a problem. Sign in to see full entry.
Whew! Yesterday was one of those days from Hades, but when we called it a day, our list of accomplishments was long. The main beam was broken in several places that required more cement blocks and wooden shivs to fill in the space and give the blocks a little padding. All told, I hauled sixty cement... While we didn't actually use the bottle jack, we got a lot done today. Once we actually got under the house, we discovered the main backbone of the house was extremely weak in one place and very weak in another. That discovery caused us to refigure how we would need to be jacked up and splinted to... Sign in to see full entry.
If all goes well, we are going to attempt to lift up the northwest corner of the house today. One of the main beams of lumber that gives the floor its support has given way, allowing a four to five-inch sag. Unchecked, this would split the flooring, and eventually, everything will collapse. That's... Sign in to see full entry.

We finally got inside the tiny house. I do believe that at one point in time, this building was 'home' to a couple, maybe a couple with one child. It is probably 14' x 16' in size. We found numerous old-style suitcases and two very old woven wooden picnic baskets. One of them is fragile but intact.... Sign in to see full entry.
Ah! Now, this is the Florida that I remember! I woke up not shivering, so the day was off to a good start. Allegedly, we will see 80 degrees today. I can settle for 75, so I'm happy. My daily routine has changed a bit. I used to be here much earlier, but since we instituted 'movie nights,' I've had... Sign in to see full entry.

It's a three movie night here in Madison, so as Lisa runs to the bathroom, I am leaving you folks a note. We didn't have time to enter the little house we found behind our house, but I hope to do so tomorrow.. I also want to thank Annicita for the quick return of my next chapter of my murder story.... Little House on the Ridge?
We 'found' something unusual in the back yard, way out in the 'pucker-brush,' right at the rear property line. There had been a lot of trash, and assorted tree trimmings piled up that initially hid this building. It isn't very big, about the size of a decent living room. At first, we thought it was...
