Good News, Chariot’s Comin’, or something's Coming, I don't know what it is

The factory which makes my signature skin color no longer produces it, wants hundreds of dollars to mix me up a batch and so, I went to Dunn Edwards with my color and expected to be disappointed with any match that they might come up with. I gave them a smear of the paint on a white paper and I could NOT EVEN SEE where they put their match on top of my swatch!! I asked if they were teasing me, if they hadn’t really put any of their match on my smear. It matches exactly and cost me $27 for one... Sign in to see full entry.

Success Sucks Rotten Eggs Today

Two of my wholesale store buyers have told me that I have been supported by them in the past (about ten years), and I have, and so, now that I am successfully about to sell at retail prices and double my income, making only the same effort as usual at clay production, I must still supply them to repay them their kindnesses. One got me into the Magazine which has brought all of these new customers to me. They both bought my artwork when I was desperate for money and they had no customers to buy... Success is more than I expected it to be

Dear Readers, The October issue of The Arizona Highways Magazine, our state magazine, came out and it had a small little snippet on page three with three of my angels pictured. I have received so many email inquiries and orders for my cd catalogue and pieces, that I haven't had a moment to write here. With a failing and crashing and burning computer, normal office work is beyond difficult. I am caught between paying the rent this month by selling to stores as usual, for 50% of their retail... Of Boats, Gene Kelly, German Drinking songs and Glorious Water

This morning, the birds in the trees outside were chirping so very loudly in such a large grouping that it was actually what I would refer to as noisy. They were as joyous as the trees around town because Hurricane Javier’s outer clouds reached our desert and brought delicious, unending, everything soaking, omigosh huge puddle forming, where’s my umbrella and raincoat donning drops, and kept dropping them over and over and over again all night and day, two days ago. Whew! I had thirty-five... Sign in to see full entry.

And a False Docent Shall Lead Them Thru the Museum

I drove over to my granddaughter's house as today was "Visit the University of Arizona Art Museum Day" for us. I saw a car with writing all over the back window and it read, "November 12th, Barry Manilow concert in Phoenix, manilowmaniac@msn.com", in white paint. Amazing! She heads up the Tucson Fan Club. I drove faster to see her face. Younger than mine and though I'm not an official fan, his concerts are always lots of fun. Any friend of Bette Midler is a friend of mine. My granddaughter put... Wake Up, Pretty girl, the birds are singing out to Chinese Fire Drills

Today I awoke inside that agonized, arthritic place called old age and had Tylenol for breakfast. The monsoon returned with its humidity and achey breaky heat. Visualize old women and old dogs limping around until medications kicked in. I had Reese’s Pieces Cereal for breakfast and went into a diabetic coma for about 30 minutes afterwards, what an error to make. I put on 'zouk' music to get the blood flowing in my veins and to make myself move and dress and change attitude. My earrings looked... Sign in to see full entry.

My Son Runs Around in a Wolf's Suit and other snippets

I have been out selling my artwork this week at my usual stores and have enjoyed the recent drives around town while doing so, even without air conditioning and power steering. I finally bought a sheep skin cover for my steering wheel so that I could actually hold onto it while driving. The temperatures have been around 96 degrees all week, but a sweet autumnal 96, and, if you live in the desert, you know what I’m talking about. There is a difference between mid summer 96 and that cooler... Sign in to see full entry.

Jorge Alberto, a child of the Estancia de Maria Orphanage in Guadalajara

Remember the previous story about the Estancia de Maria Orphanage and the good things that the Junior League of Guadalajara is doing there? Well, the League has suddenly developed a political agenda, which they didn’t previously have. They want the laws of the state of Jalisco changed and they want culpability for State Agencies, adoption procedures set up because today no child in the state of Jalisco may be adopted and they want parents to be educated in child rearing and parents to be... Brave New World of Orphaned Mexican Children

Imagine that you are confined in a metal peeling crib twenty-four hours a day in a room filled floor to ceiling with ammonia fumes that actually knock visitors physically back into the room that they entered from. You have one light bulb in that ceiling which is rarely turned on, so as not to wake the twenty other people in the room. There is no window. The walls are crumbling adobe and the floors are bare concrete. Nuns attend you and they are untrained in caring for you other than to know that... Sign in to see full entry.

Charley, The Brutal Gardener

Last night, just before sleeping, I watched a television program about Chinese and Japanese gardeners, caretakers of ancient, tended places within their countries. I watched them build struts to hold up ancient branches that would otherwise break off and fall and throw off the ‘balance’ of their gardens’ planned beauty. When my gardener, Charley, arrived yesterday afternoon in the clothing that my son had passed onto him and hungry and thirsty, I told him about the program on television the...
