Living in the Shadows: Destined

5. The Status Quo Jessica watched calmly as the speedometer inched past 90 miles an hour. She grasped the arm rest and shut her eyes, attempting to block out the world. When life gives you lemons make lemonade, but when life gives you a mob of ferocious vampires, flee the country. Jessica was still attempting to learn the rules of the anomalous shadow land she had unknowingly delved into. A world of chaos and sadistic rule, devoid of loyalty, and the only laws or standards honored are those... Sign in to see full entry.

4. Escape Plan Aron and Jessica fell through the door together and collapsed on the bed. “I’ve never been so exhausted in my entire life,” Jessica murmured. Or so destroyed, she thought to herself as the earlier portion of the night played out in her mind. The thoughts of self-hatred began to consume her mind. She could no longer put them off. There were no more distractions to deviate her from the opening abyss of guilt that was trying to drown her. Tears threatened and she rolled over and... Sign in to see full entry.

3. Vindicated The world can be a crazy mixed up place, but it watches after those who need the extra help. Our world forgets nothing that it sees. It doesn’t ignore those that deserve second chances, and it doesn’t detest the hopes of those that don’t. Although the world we live in isn’t always fair, it is always the best that we can get and at times it doesn’t seem fair, or right, but it’s better than the alternative. Jessica Heart didn’t care what forces had constructed the miracle before her.... Sign in to see full entry.

2. Histories Aron tucked a stray piece of Jessica’s hair behind her ear. “I give you everything,” he whispered. Jessica gasped, struggling to calm her racing heart Was he really saying….she leveled her gaze on him. Hope yawned open before her like a never ending tunnel, but she was waiting for it to collapse. Too scared to ask her question, too scared that the answer he gave would begin the dismantlement of her one way tunnel. If her tunnel collapsed, she would collapse with it. She could no... Living in the Shadows: Destined

1. A New Beginning Aron flexed his hands in the moonlight, and took a step toward Jessica. He ran his hands down his chest, but the hole from the knife was gone. The blood had disappeared. His hand flew to his neck in a panic as he began to choke. Something foreign was passing through his air passageways. He struggled to gain control of his breathing. For the first time in three hundred years he was breathing. It was air in his lungs. It was life. Unmarred and undammed life. Aron turned his... Sign in to see full entry.

The Sequel

I am working on the sequel to Living in the Shadows. It's called Living in the Shadows: Destined. However it IS a work in a progress, but I will post it as I write it, but the process is going pretty slow at the moment. It's hard to keep up with school and being a teenager all at one time. I'll tell a little bit about the stroy...but i don't want to ruin it for those who are reading the first one...and I myself don't know all what will happen in the sequel, but I am sure this will be the last... Epilogue: Destined Jessica watched as her father fell, watched as he died with a horrible grimace of shock on his face. I killed my own father. Jessica slowly turned around with tear filled eyes to see Aron sprawled on the floor with a knife handle sticking out of his chest. “No, oh no,” she murmured. She ran erratically for the door. “Damon!” She screamed. There was no answer. “Damn you! Answer me!” Silence answered her. Jessica went back to Aron and dropped to her knees beside him. She gently... Chapter XXVI Jessica turned and glared at the spokesman from hell that stood five feet away from her. “You’re no father to me.” She said quietly. Her words lacked the conviction she wanted her voice to hold because in her chest her heart was breaking into unmagnifiable pieces. Her father smiled. “I’m happy that we seem to have that understanding. I can’t let a petty reason such as love destruct the path of which I must take. The path that leads to you imminent death.” Jessica returned the smile.... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XXV “No.” Jessica whimpered. “Please no.” A heartless laugh echoed in the room. “Hello, Jessica,” it said amused. “Dad,” she whispered. “No.” The voice said angrily. “I have no children.” Tears fell down Jessica’s cheeks. “You have me,” she said quietly. “I have no one!” He scoffed. “You had Mom!” She yelled angrily. “Your mother left me,” he said like a wounded child. “She didn’t want this life. Even if it was the only way she could be with me.” “What did you do?” Jessica whispered. “I... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XXIV Jessica stared into the darkness and felt the wind blowing the dark strands of her hair. She watched in quiet desperation as Damon lugged an unconscious Aron away. She couldn’t help not trusting Damon. Jessica lifted her chin and stared daringly at Damon’s departing back, wishing she had could throw her knife at it. At the moment of her quiet desire Damon turned back and locked eyes with her. Jessica held the stare and glared furiously in his direction. Damon simply winked at her... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XXIII Jessica and Aron looked up as Damon appeared in the doorway. “What was that about?” Jessica asked barely containing her anger. Damon shrugged. “He said he didn’t have it.” He smiled dangerously. “I just wanted to make sure.” Jessica took a step toward him. “What did you do?” She yelled. “Jessica,” Aron said grabbing at her. “Knock it off,” he said glaring at Damon. The group walked off into the dark, not knowing they had found what they had come for. Not knowing that they were... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XXII “Ok,” Jessica said as they arrived at the house. “How are we going to do this?” “Like this,” Damon said as he opened the door. “Damon, no.” Jessica whispered. Damon didn’t even bother to look back at her as he walked in the house. Aron glanced at Jessica and they followed behind him. Jessica held her breath as they crossed over the threshold and reached for Aron’s hand. Jessica led the way into the living room. She knew that’s where Bill would be. Jessica stared in disgust at her... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XXI Jessica stared across the room at the people whom a few days ago she hadn’t even known. She locked eyes with the one that had brought her into this world. They were in this together. They were on opposite sides, but they had worked as one. He was the only one she could trust. Aron stared back at her. His green eyes dilated in disbelief. Jessica bowed her head. Aron turned to Damon. “It was supposed to be a legend.” Damon looked at his brother. “That’s the thing about legends.... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XX The room went silent. As if the stunning revelation had drawn them to some new reality where sound didn’t exist. Jessica was screaming inside, but no words broke through her lips. Her heart was shattering into a million pieces. She stared at Damon with the hatred of a million lost souls. “Yes, you did,” Jessica said. She wouldn’t accept anything else. She had finally accepted the facts of her situation, and now they were all about to change. She wouldn’t stand for it. Jessica calmly... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XIX “Damon,” Aron said standing up. Damon stormed over to him and shoved him. Aron went flying across the room. Damon ran at him and picked him up by the throat and slammed him against the wall. “Aron!” Jessica yelled. Damon turned to look at her. “Shut up!” He yelled. He turned his attention back to Aron. “What did I tell you? You stupid boy! This is bigger than me and you! You don’t know what you’re dealing with here.” Damon slammed Aron against the wall again. “How did I get landed... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XVIII A dead silence filled the room. It crept in through the cracks in the wall and stilled Jessica’s heart. “What?” She exclaimed standing up. Aron walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. “Not in the literal sense,” he said calming her. “I wouldn’t be here today if he had and you would probably already be dead.” Jessica hugged him. “What did you mean then?” She asked into the roughness of his leather jacket. “In the spiritual manner, he ended my life.” Jessica stepped... Chapter XVII Aron looked at Jessica, but didn’t say anything. With forced movements he bent over and pulled his knife from the dead vampire. When Damon finds this body Aron’s aura would be all over it, but there was no reason to throw it in his face by leaving his knife behind. That would be a faulty move on Aron’s part. Those that Damon allows in his line he defends fiercely and this one’s blood is on Aron’s hands. “We must go,” he said quietly. “No, not until you explain to me about Damon.” “I... Living in the Shadows

Chapter XVI Aron found Jessica in a dark alley way in a broken down area of Trenton. She was fighting furiously with no one he recognized, although he recognized him as a vampire. Aron stood at the end of the alley and watched impassively, vowing that he wouldn’t interfere unless things got out of hand. Although he would not allow Jessica to continue on her own until he had probed the other vampire’s mind to see his capabilities. Aron swore under his breath. He barely had to touch the vampire’s... Chapter XV Aron stood and paced in front of Jessica. “Fight them? Fight them how?” Jessica stood up and walked over to him. “You don’t consider yourself among ‘them’ now? The correct pronoun would be ‘us’ I believe.” “Jessica, you’re not prepared for this. You have no clue what you’re getting yourself into.” Jessica circled Aron slowly. “Then enlighten me,” she said softly. Then with the speed of ancient predators forgone she spun grabbing Aron by the shoulders and tripped him over her... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XIV Jessica Heart was in danger of that no human could comprehend. Jessica Heart was no longer human. Throughout the past years her genetic make up had been slowly changing. As she gained information and grasped what she was the change came on stronger. She now was a fully changed vampire hunter, a witch some would say. She did possess magical powers, but she didn’t commit to indulging ceremonies. Aron sat patiently awaiting Jessica’s reappearance. In a space of two days this girl’s life... Chapter XIII Jessica viewed the evidence in her mind. Her mother died, thus her daughter became a hunter. You can’t be willing when being changed into a vampire. Once a vampire, you become human again. How? That’s not exactly certain. Her father is missing. Possibly still alive, in a sense. Her mother? Maybe her death was staged, but she was still dead. She had to be. It was the only thing that made sense. Jessica paced Aron’s apartment alone, waiting for him to return. That last stunt annoyed... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter XII Aron watched as Jessica attempted to limp out the door. He knew she was hurting, but he also knew that her pride would disallow her to ask him for help. “Jess, wait.” He said. She stopped but didn’t turn around to face him. He grabbed her arm and brought her back to his apartment with his mind. He reconstructed the other night and gingerly lay her down on the bed. She quickly got up and crossed her arms. “I don’t need your help,” she said stubbornly. “I’m sorry, but yes you do,... Sign in to see full entry.

Living in the Shadows

Chapter XI Jessica left the cemetery with a heavy heart. No body, and an empty casket. There are more pieces to this absurd puzzle than there is space for, and half the pieces don’t fit together. Jessica got to wondering on her journey back to town. How did any of this even happen? She walked the luke warm familiar route back to Aron’s apartment. She had some questions and she wanted some answers. Apparently there were some things about her mother’s past that she hadn’t bothered to share with... Sign in to see full entry.
