The self-publishing option

I'm thinking of writing a book and self-publishing it. Yep, you read right - self-publishing a book. It's a daunting adventure, one I plan on taking one step at a time, but I hope to have it on the shelf by this time next year. I figure that by putting it on the Blogging Network, I'll take it ever... Sign in to see full entry.

Taking a break

I'm taking a bit of a break today from posting regularly on all of my blogs. There is a simple reason for this. Yesterday's post in I am here and I am not silent reminded me graphically of some things I've been working hard to try to forget over the years. As a result, I'm going to have to take a... Stuck in the aftermath of a snowstorm for a week

It was January 1967 and we got stuck with about two feet of snow - an average of an inch an hour for nearly a full day straight. I had just turned ten maybe eight weeks before, and I was thrilled, of course. But Dad got stuck at work for I don't know how long (and I don't remember). Had to sleep... Sign in to see full entry.

Something to think about

Joanne Jacobs suggested that people write about this topic, and I agree. That's why I'm posting here, and that's why I'll be posting on this topic in I am here and I am not silent (from another perspective). Jacobs provides a link to an article detailing the release of children from Iraqi prisons.... Sign in to see full entry.

To the new veterans in training in the Middle East

I want you to know that your enlistment places you and me in a value-for-value relationship. You are risking your life for me in the Middle East, at the behest of President Bush. In return, my tax money pays for the Veterans' Administration and the benefits that administration provides. It really... Sign in to see full entry.

My own take - 6-10 on Jim's enemies list

OK, Jim, you have me - in your recent blog (may it rate highly on the Top 100), you list five of your ten enemies, and allow us to fill in Slots 6-10. Here goes, from my perspective: 6. Companies that refuse to hire enough help to keep things running smoothly. I was at my local Borders tonight, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Back home

Turns out it was an equipment glitch. No fun! I got the equipment glitch corrected and am now fully operational. I'm also grateful there was a Kinko's nearby to help make it possible for me to update at least one blog. It's nice to know I have a backup. Nurse Garfield informs me that new field notes... I may be absent for a few days

I have a dial-up connection - drat, darn, shucks, filth, (fill in the blank). I'm typing this at my local Kinko's - my phone is completely out (as in, no dial tone, and I've paid at least my full past-due balance). Therefore, if you don't see me for the next 24 hours, that's why (not that it matters... Sign in to see full entry.

Prompted by title: Who in Hell...

Oh, brother, this is a loaded one. I have a whole lot of hunches as to who I think is in Hell (the Christian version, that is), but I'm unwilling to say just what those hunches are. Since this blog seems to be staying at the top of the New Posts heap for a while, I'd like people to think about this... Sign in to see full entry.

Net filtering software ought to be itself banned

This, to me, is the worst thing in the world schools and communities at large can do for kids. Why? I feel kids get cheated out of legitimate research opportunities just because we are afraid of being offended. Let us suppose that my daughter wishes to go to the local public library to research...
