When I was in Arizona, the blogit! people began a discussion which continues today. What is poetry, how can we improve ours? Ariala began the self-appointed role as moderator, and continues to review poems, giving valuable suggestions for ways to create successful poetry. Round three of "Beat the... Writing: I Love It!

I was in the grocery store Friday night. There was a Mexican family (that I did not know) behind me. I said to them (in Spanish): "if you are in a hurry you can go in front of me. I have the night off." So they did, and I started talking to th high school boy. I asked him how much writing they did... Sign in to see full entry.

Kingmi's Response to A Third Place Showing in "Beat The Clock!"

This is an open letter to Alf, but to Ghee Ghee as well, and to Ariala who started this poetry discussion some weeks ago. Dear friends, You cannot know what it meant to me to be involved in this writing contest. I discovered something about myself that I always suspected, hoped would be true, but... Well, I have to say that my experiences with writing this week have been mind-blowing and have set a new all-time record for me. Culminating with yesterday's poetry-writing session for Alf and Ghe ghe. I was so spent and drained after writing that poem I cried. I was just able to drag myself out of... The new semester is apon us. I have saved the best for last. Within the confines of the regular curriculum, I plan to teach: 1. journaling; 2. reading comprehension; 3 spelling; 4. vocabulary; 5. fractions. Journaling is great fun to teach in the winter semester. Just when my students think I surely... Sign in to see full entry.

Vacationing in the Desert, Blogger Makes a Pitch for Love of Writing!

OK, some of you want to hear about the wolf. I don't know if it was a wolf or a coyote. As Chelsea and I approached the Sujaro National Forest, where we are spending winter break, we saw two coyotes in the highway. At first we thought they were wolves because of the impressive coat of fur and the... Sign in to see full entry.

When Loved Ones Tell You that Blogit! Is a Waste of Time, Don't Listen.

Frequently, and perhaps I am overly sensitive, or paranoid as my kids tell me -- I always remind them that no one is perfect -- but sometimes, maybe not often, I feel like I'm being ciritqued at work. The reason is that my students are required to do the three R's every day. We have options. We can... Sign in to see full entry.

Let Me Clarify a Small Misunder-estimation. When I Stated that Writing Was

paramount in the reading process, I meant that expressive literacy of any kind, is synthesis. What is invaluable to the process is the "putting-it-back-together" synthesis of expressive literacy. Indeed if people can tell you about what they read, draw pictures of it, act it out, sing about it, turn... Sign in to see full entry.
