War Tax Wrap Up

The War Tax gathering has finished and I am here waiting for a newly found wheelchair accessible ride to the airport. No more head crunching. Everybody has left and I am a little sad. Only Scott, Larry, Arwen and I remain. It's so cold here, I feel like I am standing in a refrigerator. As usual, I... Sign in to see full entry.

Update From War Tax Conference

Last night was pretty emotional with a presentation by my friend Mary who has been doing peace and aid work in Iraq. She had some really beautiful slides. She even talked about a housing arrangement that had been made for some disabled people with the help of their neighbors and the American Friends... Sign in to see full entry.

Short Update from Maine

Got to Boston alright. Arwen is nice, so you don't need to worry about me. Took 1 1/2 hours to get to my friend's house from South station because of broken elevators and bad directions. They really need to work on their signage for disabled people. Went out to pizza and then did a little guerilla... Sign in to see full entry.

Away (Maybe) Notice

Tomorrow I'm leaving for my friend John's house in Boston to stay over so I can make it to Maine in the morning. Once there, I'm at a war tax resistance conference until the 14th until noon. Then I leave for Atlanta on a flight at 5:45 PM. I don't get in until about 10:30, but I'm being picked up in... Sign in to see full entry.

Procrastination (Partly)

Procrastinating on novel writing and speech writing and article writing (I don't even know if if I'm still within the deadline for the article nor do I care). I feel wierd. I got up early, fixed my chair, and was very productive this morning, fixing PCA schedules and the like. Did research in Noho,... Sign in to see full entry.

Still reeling!

I saw an awesome program called "Facing the Pain of War" put on by the Veterans Education Project which dealt with psychological issues of war. One girl from Belchertown talked about how her brother committed suicide after returning from Iraq. I got to touch his boots and talk to his grandparents.... Sign in to see full entry.

Ain't Gonna Let No George W. Bush Turn Me Around...

Really energized after going to a lefty music benefit... Had great musicians including my friend Tom Neilson and my former student Amy. It was a benefit for Flyby News, a left-wing, mostly internet, news publication, so that they could pay their $300 photocopy bill. I shared a decadent mini-cake... Sign in to see full entry.

Update

(Re)Hired a PCA today. He is an old PCA/friend who worked for me off and on for about 3 years. He's back in Valley after a little while of absence and just got fired from his job at the cafeteria. He'll work Thursdays, hopefully if I can get my current Thursday person to take Wednesdays (the actual... Sign in to see full entry.

Post Election Calm

Quiet today... think I'm mourning the John/John loss... had three interviews with travel PCA's, 2 strong applicants... Decided on one, will call tomorrow for travel arrangements... Read a dance novel that made me contemplative... Checked out to more sci-fi books from the library... like I need... Sign in to see full entry.

Election 2004 and Other Matters

Today, I voted... I danced... I laughed. Democracy, exercise, and joy- who could ask for anything more? Dancing rocked, even if it took my last $2. I'd forgotten how good dance fabric feels on the skin or how much fun it was to invent choreography (which we had for the last 15 minutes of class). I... Sign in to see full entry.
