Is it about reproducing one's genetic traits in political life?
No, the slogan personal is political certainly isn't that. It's about carrying one's politics from the home to the world and from the world to the home. It's about acknowledging that our decisions in what is called "personal" life are, in the end, political decisions.

Politics makes strange bedfellows...new meaning
A comment on an earlier post inspired this one. The point was: in the context that the personal IS political, does not the statement "politics makes strange bedfellows" acquire a new meaning? It would seem that it does. And it would also seem that it doesn't. Bedfellows are personal and by choice....

Working together

If one is going through a financial crisis but one has access to cash
