The Princess and the Pea

My new bed came yesterday, and I was beyond delighted! Once we had it all set up and ready to go, I stood back and stared at it, amazed! It's way taller than I'd realized. I guess it's hard to tell when you're in the store, surrounded by all sorts of really tall beds. This one actually looked small... Sign in to see full entry.

A Very Sad Day in Sira's House

We found out last night that there will be no kittens coming to join our happy little family. Sophie, the would-be mother, lost the litter. Steve, the cat's owner, and Mark were saddened by the loss, but still relieved. Neither of them had been overly excited about having a bunch of kittens running... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm telling My Daddy on You!

I've been doing cross-stitch since I was about 12. It's something to keep my hands busy while I'm watching TV, or just chatting with Mark. A few months ago, I finally finished a very large piece. It's very pretty, and took me almost 2 years to complete. There are 5 teddy bears on it, all richly... Sign in to see full entry.

Old Injuries and New Hips

My dad spent 3 days in the hospital emergency room over the holidays. He was suffering from bursitis, a very painful inflammation of the joints. In his case, it was in his hips. On his first visit, the "doctors" gave him some pain meds and an anti-inflammatory, and sent him home. I use the term... Sign in to see full entry.

Visit from a Zealot

I want to start this post by stating quite clearly that I don't mean to offend any mormons here - I have the utmost respect for your beliefs, I simply do not share them. I was busy writing one sunny afternoon, when I heard the sound of multiple footsteps outside the window. Someone, or rather a... Sign in to see full entry.

Finding my Family

I'm adopted. I've always had a great deal of respect for the woman who gave birth to me, because I'm sure it took a lot of personal strength for her to make the choice. But I've never really thought about finding her. Until now. There are a lot of reasons that I want to find her. Curiosity, the need... Sign in to see full entry.

Plumbers, Beds, and Psychologists

When I worked downtown, I had a personal organizer that I had on me at all times. It was necessary, for keeping track of meetings, deadlines, appointments etc. I'd been off work for almost 4 months before I stopped checking it every day - old habits really do die hard! Now, I hardly ever use it. And... Sign in to see full entry.

Mattress Shopping with My Man

My mother re-decorated the guest rooms in her house last summer. Included in the make-over were new mattresses for both beds. She found a really good deal - $400 for a queen size mattress and box spring set, from CO-OP (the local grocery store). She had a fair bit of company over the summer, and... I just want to work!

Mark is home today, because the shop isn't busy this soon after the holidays. I love him dearly, and I've really enjoyed having him home, but he's starting to get underfoot now. The television is in my workroom. I never turn it on during the day, because it's distracting when I'm trying to write.... Sign in to see full entry.

Unscheduled Turkey Disaster

Mark came home on his last day of work, bonus cheque clutched in one had, and a giant turkey in the other. I guess poultry is part of the bonus program at his company. We agreed to cook the bird on New Years day (that would be today) and have a few friends over to help us eat it. I based my plans on... Sign in to see full entry.
