Blessed Are the Poor Matthew said, 'blessed are the poor in spirit.' Luke, describing the same event, said, 'blessed are the poor.' Both are true. Today, the poor are abused and used by our system of greed. We would do well to remember this: that in God/dess's economy, the poor hold a special place. Let us not forget Christ's story of Lazarus and the rich man. Why do we make it twice as hard for those struggling materially, to get a leg up?
