Overnight storms, lots of rain

This area has a weather system hovering now -- rain, wind, thunder and lightning. Is it just me, or do storms this year seem to carry a lot more lightning than they used to? Maybe it's just the TV weatherman's better mapping, but those graphics show a lot of lightning strikes, they cover the whole... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday. Six more weeks of election season...

Six long weeks of empty rhetoric, six long weeks of pointing fingers and looking for slips next to an open microphone, six weeks of negative ads every ten minutes, six endless weeks of pundits pulling apart and spinning the straw words of candidates and their kissin' cousins into media gold. I can... Sign in to see full entry.

Cute guy in uniform...

Went to the market a couple days ago, and there he was, neatly tucked in, ribbons on his chest, and as I moved across the lot, he looked intently at me. "Wanna buy some cub scout popcorn?" he said as I got close enough for conversation. I told him I'd buy some on the way out. Never could resist a... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter 19: What the Indian Said

A few weeks later In the December rush of finals week Joe Alvarez not only had his own assignments to finish and exams to pass, he also had to grade the projects of thirty-three 101 students. There was no time to socialize or check the website, barely even time to sleep. He didn’t get to Mission... Sign in to see full entry.

Ch. 18: Say Uncle - conclusion

“Could you live with this, instead?” “I don’t know.” “You’d be helping your country.” “I don’t know, I guess it’s safer than busting up their playhouse and bringing down the wrath of god.” “Perhaps we could find a more appropriate target for your sandworm, Joe. When you’re ready to look for a job,... Sign in to see full entry.

The spy story - "Say Uncle" continues

“Will do.” Henry went back to the computer, worked through a page of Joe’s program. A few minutes later, Amanda knocked. “Could you use some scrambled eggs and hash browns?” “Oh, yes,” Henry said with a grin. In no time he and Joe worked the wheelchair into the house. They ate, mostly in silence.... Sign in to see full entry.

Just a little personal note:

Friday around lunch time my law student daughter was rear-ended by a truck when she stopped at an intersection for a red light. He apparently didn't see her, shoved her vehicle 150 yards before it came to a stop, then rolled over her car, totaled it. The air bag did not deploy, so her head went into... Say "Uncle."

CHAPTER 18 - SAY UNCLE At 5:30 Saturday morning the lovely Jocelyn Street waited at a commercial hangar at Boeing Field to meet Henry Begay’s flight from Washington, DC. He deplaned from an aircraft with a FedEx logo and grinned appreciatively at the sight of her. “I’ve been looking forward to this... Sign in to see full entry.

Wiley John's Comment & a bit of behind the scenes

PatB A lot of research had to go into this. For me, it was way too high tech and had too many characters for my feeble and aged mind. I had to do the same thing I do with David Baldachi's books, I have to list everybody on a separate page to understand the story. I also have trouble with 'acronyms... Sign in to see full entry.

Spy story -- WhiteEarth's Problem, cont.

Finn kept his expression flat, masking his relief. Not only was his head still attached, he had this assignment! The meeting broke up as day-shift employees left for the day. He needed a smoke. He went outside, lit up and paced back and forth along the sidewalk, searching his mind for an angle. The... Sign in to see full entry.
