Update -- Remember Cringe? (aka Whinge)

She used to share with us here on Blogit her stories of an Irish girl moving to America and meeting her in-laws... I see her on Facebook from time to time. She's as beautiful as ever, has a daughter Rowan now coming into bud in her early teens. Rowan, as girls that age do, has mood swings. And her... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Friday...

My PC has been growling at me the last few days. I keep getting pop-ups warning me that my CPU is being stressed while I'm online. Something about Microsoft using up all the virtual memory or something written in Computerese that I don't track very well with my not-so-logical mind. I suspect, Dr.... Sign in to see full entry.

Coolest morning in a month of Sundays

It's 70 degrees this a.m. and the humidity is low. So it's comfortable enough to open the door and let the fresh air in. I caught a flash on the weather channel that the high for the day in Seattle will be 73. (sigh) Speaking of fresh air, I miss the scent of the forest where I grew up. Don't miss... When I worked at Adams Printing Co., in late '59 and 1960

there was a Linotype machine, complete with a gas-fired pot of hot lead, and an area where the lead type could be melted down, poured into molds and re-used. The long sausages of lead had half-circle hooks on one end, and were called pigs. We had a big dumb country boy who worked there at the time.... Sign in to see full entry.

Obit

Sure sign of approaching old age. Checking the obits daily. I've been doing that for some time, using the old joke -- looking for my name. If it's not there, I can go ahead and carry out the plans for the day. Anyway a couple days ago I came across one for Dr. Fred R. -- one of my favorite English... Sign in to see full entry.

Vertigineous

Word for the day. I came across it a few days ago in something I was reading, a sci fi short story by Ray Bradbury, I think. Isn't he the one who wrote "Fahrenheit 451?" Or maybe it was the one by Harlan Ellison -- another old favorite -- another of those apocalyptic nightmares in print that make... Sign in to see full entry.

New girl in town, continued...

- continued - When she got back to the building Doris was still stunned by the drama she’d come across on her route. She barely nodded at Jim as she dropped her dispatch bag on the counter and hung her jacket on the wall rack. It was as though she was on autopilot as Doris sorted envelopes into the... Ideas...

I'll be dee-diddling around the house, hear something on NPR that sets my pea-brain chugging slowly or skipping quickly after an idea for Blogit. I imagine what Wiley or Kabu or Azur would say about this or that. I grin to myself about Taps' most likely response, knowing full well all the kids in... Sign in to see full entry.

We haven't seen Nautikos for a long time -- since May.

I sent an email a couple weeks ago, but got no answer. Somebody please tell me you've gotten a card from him in Paris or something. Sign in to see full entry.

New girl in town ...

- continued - Halfway to their Fourth Avenue accounting office -- on Pine Street between Sixth and Seventh -- was a jewelry store: Slidell’s. It was a ritzy, expensive little store, apparently run by a family. Doris seldom glanced in the window s, except maybe to check her own reflection. She’d... Sign in to see full entry.
