Unfriend nofriend pretendfriend

I have a love-hate relationship with Facebook. I love the photos my grandson's wife posts of their darling little baby girl who has an inquisitive baby glow about her as she really looks at the world. She's adorable in a little plastic chair pouring pretend tea from a little teapot into a colorful... Sign in to see full entry.

What time is it?

I have one Atomic clock which resets itself every night during the midnight hours - it picks up signals from Colorado's beacon. Not expensive, I bought it at Target or Wally world I think. It's digital and cost around $20. It keeps time to the second, and automatically does the spring ahead - fall... Sign in to see full entry.

A rose by any other name

When you're reading about a character in a story, the name is a big part of the image. Goldfinger. Harry Potter. Ichabod Crane. Cool Hand Luke. Keeping names straight can be a problem sometimes when I'm reading a new story, especially if the heroes and villians have similar names. Joe and Jim. Tom,... Sign in to see full entry.

New for me

Went there. Nothing on Taps. It was all about my thing. Don't know why I wanted to know who insulted my colleague. Focusing on the negatives is bad for one's outlook and makes the day a downer. So it's just as well I couldn't backtrack... A. There are small minded haters everywhere. Even best... Sign in to see full entry.

Beyond Timbuktu

It's an exotic little shop up on Main Street, "Beyond Timbuktu." They sell day of the dead art from Mexico, earrings and necklaces from all over the Middle East, dresses and scarves from India, sculptures from Africa, hand-made shoes from other countries I can no longer remember. Woven baskets, art,... Sign in to see full entry.

Laundromat Sociology

It is a supreme luxury to have a washer and dryer at home. You can gather, sort and let the cycles run while you make dinner, watch a soap opera or study for an exam. It takes time to load baskets into the car - or climb on a city bus with a duffel bag – more time to wait out the wash and dry cycles... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Birth Day

Yesterday my baby daughter had her "39th" birthday, which she Facebooked she's ignoring. For one thing there's law school lectures, papers due, a long commute to and from St. Pete, and the 'pleasures' of peri-menopause. Some days she can't help fanning herself in class due to unwanted hot flashes. I... Sign in to see full entry.

For the Birds...

I may have mentioned the old bird feeder broke about a week ago. It hung on a black cord, swung in the breeze, moved under the landings and takeoffs of birds, and of course the cord wore through. Of course it was broken off inside the tube that connects the top to the seed container and the only way... Sign in to see full entry.

Old Flame, New Game

Vicki told us at the writer's group meeting she'd received a phone call 'out of the blue' from her ex, who we'll refer to as A. She hadn't seen or heard from him in fifteen years, he'd been incarcerated the last she'd heard, one of those stupid crook arrests where he practically jumped into the back... Trucked

Son Joe bought a new Ford F150 four-door with all the bells and whistles. There's something called blue tooth that allows him to dial up people and make phone calls using voice commands. Kinda reminds me of the old Star Trek programs when Jean Luc Picard would say "Earl Gray. Hot." Joe is having a... Sign in to see full entry.
