I Can SCREAM...sort of!

In 1988, I'd been in front of the TV, beating on the carpet, as the Kansas Jayhawks won what was supposed to be the impossible game against Oklahoma. They won by a mere 4 points. My kids were in their rooms, asleep, ready for school the next day, and my husband and I celebrated much more quietly than this year! Instead of screaming, I was kneeling in front of the TV, beating on the carpet. This year, 20 years older, a Parkinson's disease patient, and my hip in such bad shape, that if I even... Isogenics - It's Working!

I paid a pretty penny to get into this program, but it's going to be worth it. Isogenics is a program of eating to improve your health, to rid you body of the toxins that make if dysfunctional. It is a program to help your body heal itself. I learned a new term. Instead of losing weight, I am releasing those extra pounds. Think about it. Is there anything that you ever lost that you didn't want to find again? Aha! That explains why I've been a yoyo dieter since age 35. You are supposed to wait... Sign in to see full entry.

Hey, Blogit, GOOD News

I wondered what Jay had done for Nick’s science fair project (No, this is NOT my husband, Jay. It’s just a male fantasy!) The GOOD NEWS is I’m still in remission! I checked out clean Wednesday at oncology. I had my Mammogram and I'd been having some pain where I'd noticed a lump last year, all along the surgical site. They found a sack filled with fluid by some scar tissue last year -- not cancer. This year they did another sonogram because it had become painful over the past month. The... DRINK YOUR WATER!

Your drinking water has been in the news this past week. The Associated Press conducted a survey of some twenty-odd American cities and found out what OTHER impurities are in the water we drink from the tap. They found several kinds of pharmaceuticals are in your tap water. These included human sex hormones such as those found in birth control pills. I wonder if my little PUR water filter can catch these minuscule particles? It's bad enough knowing the other flotsam makes up what we drink. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Newspaper Keeps Weeds Away

I can't wait to try this tip, provided I can still get around enough to garden! Start putting in your plants, and work the nutrients into your soil. Place newspapers in layers around the plants, overlapping as you go. Wet them down thoroughly. Cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic but they will not get through wet newspapers. (I think the key is to keep the newspapers wet!) Sign in to see full entry.

Tip on Reheating Refrigerated Bread

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster. This really does work! Don't over heat or bread product becomes rubbery. Sign in to see full entry.

Expanding Frosting Tip

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving. Sign in to see full entry.

Hint for Easy Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal and mash till they are all broken up. Add the remainder of ingredients (what you usually add to your yolks), reseal, keep mashing it up, mixing thoroughly. Cut the tip of the baggy and squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw the bag away when done. What an easy cleanup! Here's a "secret ingredient" to give potato salad and deviled eggs a special umph Use white pepper in place of black pepper! I also add a tablespoon of sugar to help mascerate the... Sign in to see full entry.

My Pizza Hint

I would never have thought of this! We eat it cold or oven warm which tends to overcook it. 1. Reheat Pizza Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works. Sign in to see full entry.

DID YOU KNOW?

These tips have become so popular! I could hardly believe it when one of my sisters sent me some MORE tips. Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how the primates do it. Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen too fast. Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold! Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter... Sign in to see full entry.
