Costuming, peace vigils and social conscience, I'm there.
If you are an artist, and you may be, you cannot just arise and throw on any old thing out of your closet and dresser. Your clothing, and I see all clothing as costuming, must reflect your state of mind that day. Or, your clothing must help to create your state of mind. Today, in my town, is a peace vigil at the Benedictine Chapel on Country Club Road. I had planned to be there ever since it was first organized. I cannot go now, other responsibilities arose. So, my clothing must be my peace...

Walked into the Unicef Store and had trouble leaving.
My sister told us to gather somewhere and I only remembered the three stores that she had mentioned, all next to each other. I wandered into one and no one was there. I walked back out on the sidewalk and I heard the secret family Brasilian whistle call. My sister gestured me into the Unicef store. Mom and my other sister followed. A wonderful fellow named Walter Duron was there with his wife. They were delivering hundreds of Guatemalan textiles, huipiles and skirts and pants and purses, etc. to...

One of my paintings sold, may the other four do as well, soon.
The yellow door sold and I shall now paint red doors and turquoise doors and purple doors, etc. as my mother says that I must. She always tells me to make many more of whatever sold last. I thought that chickens sold best. That is what my librarian said. I painted two for his reasons and they now grace the walls of my friend Carmen's store, Que Bonita, here in Tucson. Enough listening to others. I am painting a Solola Indian girl now and hope that she sells, too, even though I am painting her...

Omigosh, the gas bill this month !!!!!!?!?! What was I thinking???
It was rainy and windy and cold, so very cold, after a long hot summer. I put on long underwear and hats and neck scarves and gloves and it just wasn't enough, ya know?? So, I turned up the heat. I left the heat turned up for the dogs of all things!! I sleep in a freezing cold bedroom, with no heater outlet, so it was around 40 degrees Fahrenheit there for over a week or three. I was fine with that, but felt that the dogs could not take that and left the main livingroom, their room, at about 70,...

Grandma's world is dirty and muddy and moist, and smells like wet dogs.
It has been raining for a few days and the dogs go in and out the dog door and race through puddles and kiddy pools of paw deep water and soggy grounds. They make a circle from the back garden into the house, up and around on the futon and back out the doggie door. Again and again and again. I sweep the drying dirt, the mud clots, and mop the sliding mud marks on the tiles and change the covers on the futon twice daily. Then, I burst into tears, lock the doggie door and go take a nap. The dogs...

My world now includes more intimate knowledge of Somalia, Islam and Russia
Hanging out while driving refugees is kind of like visiting their countries and homes. I have been in Somalia for the past three months, with periodic visits to America to act as a tour and culture guide. I haven't actually Gone to Somalia, but have rather Brought Somalia to me. I am learning some Islamic Arabic salutations and greetings and words to say when someone sneezes, other than "Salud", which is my personal favorite. The Somalis are now learning some Spanish from me, for use around town...

I am chopped liver, now I am sure of it.
My sister kidnapped my mother and took her to Mexico today. My other sister is leaving that city in Mexico today, moving back home to Guadalajara, but she has decided to stay one more day to hang out with Mom and my kidnapping sister. My other (third) sister who was visiting Mexico and was going to come home today, decided to stay for the impromptu 'sleepover' at my kidnapping sister's new posh place down there. When we are all together we laugh until someone mentions Depends and then we laugh...
