I have always felt strongly that a teacher can make or break a student. Her blunt nature was totally uncalled for, especially in a room full of kids, and everyone knows that grade school children can be the worst when it comes to impressionable circumstances. I had a sixth-grade teacher who did something similar to me over my name being changed during the summer. On the first day of school, I went to her desk and let her know about my new name, and she felt the need to make fun of the situation in front of several students. I have never forgotten her.

Words Hurt
Thank you. The little girl still lives within the grown woman, but life puts a different perspective on events. The sensitivity of the wonderful teacher, Donnie, the dear friend and all the other classmates wasn't appreciated at the time, but in looking back their attitude was life confirming. It is so easy to feel the negative and not see the positive.

Yes, some folk are insensitive, perhaps they do not have the ability to think before they speak.

A tale of insensitivity, told with much sensitivity. How nice it is when we sometimes see the girl with the glasses, braces and out-of-control hair, blossom!
