Re: Re: My Sweet Friend, Kabu
Hi Corbin,
I never said the fireworks caused the fires or the loss of lives in Austraia lately. I do not believe the fireworks are to blame at all.
I simply said it was a poor choice on the part of the powers that be in Sydney to have a massive display of this nature in the midst of all the tragedy on the continent lately.
Perhaps I could have written my comment better to be more clear.

Re: My Sweet Friend, Kabu
Too many lives lost, both human and otherwise.
I couldn't find any lives lost from the fireworks.

Re:
I'm surprised they haven't accused "Climate Change" as the cause....
Well, what do you know......
Is climate change to blame?
The devastating start to the fire season confirmed what scientists have been predicting: that Australia’s bush fires will become more frequent and more intense as climate change worsens.
Few if any other developed countries are as vulnerable to changing climate like Australia, according to scientific reports. (Don't ya love scientific reports?)
Australia is normally hot and dry in the summer, but climate change, which brings longer and more frequent periods of extreme heat, worsens these conditions and makes vegetation drier and more likely to burn.
I would have to agree that having a fireworks display is rather dumb. I haven't the foggiest idea who made the decision.
NOTE: There were actually 7 cities that had Fireworks displays...all of them (like Sydney) had them over their waterfronts. So far there have been zero reports of fires being caused by the displays.
I noticed that a huge number of the reports were from CBS, ABC, and NBC outlets and onsite reporters. (How did CNN miss out on their chance to blame it on Trump?)
From the different coverage sites, I couldn't find anything referencing any outbreaks as a result of the fireworks displays.
It appears there's a strong inclination to play on people's emotions without a concise review of the facts.

My Sweet Friend, Kabu
All I have read is this post. I do not know what Corbin Dallas wrote to you, nor do I know what you wrote to bring about Corbin Dallas' comment.
All I want to speak to is Sydney's fireworks display.
The local news here in Hawaii posted video of it. They touted it as a wonderfully beautiful display of fireworks for the new year.
Persoanlly, I watched maybe 15-20 seconds of the video before I became thoroughly sick and disgusted by the display.
I decided to scroll to the comments on the post. I was not disappointed. Every single comment I read that evening spoke to how utterly disgusting and insensitive it was for Sydney to have such a display of fireworks when the entire continent is ablaze with wildfires. Too many lives lost, both human and otherwise.
I get wanting to celebrate a new year....but not in this way.....not when so much has been lost to fire. It's just not right.
My heart goes out to you and all you love, Kabu......

Kabu dear
The devastation in Australia is unthinkable in scope. The deaths, the loss of all else, the pain, the suffering. Here in California it is wildfire season all year long and it takes years, if ever, for an area to recover, much less for a family sticken by it to recover. I am sad for your Australia. I am sad that the attitude of "Go On With the Show" prevailed.

Once again, Kabu, I am sorry so many are suffering because
of the terrible wildfires, and that you are upset by the events linked to them. Sending a prayer for the safety of all God's creatures, and for your peace of mind.
