Re: FSI
Thank you for the good wishes for my brother, and for reading and commenting. I hope my brother's going to be okay also. Good thing you didn't fool around with those wires, that could have been dangerous! Sorry it was expensive!

I am wishing your brother all the best.
My washer and dryer are in my kitchen. Back then, just like your house, my grandmother when she had the house only had a washer. The clothesline is still back there.
I do not have any moments of being a little kid trying to fix something. A few years back, I tried fixing a bill changer. What happened was that the coins were not dispensing, so there was something blocking its way. Normally, you just take out the coin hopper. The problem is that this hopper was connected to wires. Yeah, that was an expensive fix.

A college roommate once used my stereo while I was out of town, and when the turntable didn't turn properly, she tried oiling it. In fact, the lemon oil messed upthe workings, and the actual problem was a belt that had become slick with age.

Re: Pat_B
Thanks, Pat, for reading and for your comment! You are so right. I think she gets the prize for that one! Unknowingly, she set an example that day for me to use in later years. She had paused a moment before speaking to him, I remember, no doubt considering what to say and do. The chair he had pushed next to the washer to stand on while he poured the cooking oil into the washtub was still next to it, the oil container was left on the counter, half full, while my mom assessed everything quickly. I'm still amazed they figured out how to get that washer cleaned and working again!

Re: Kabu
It was funny. No, I never was a fixer upper of things either. You are right, back then things didn't get thrown away. They got fixed no matter what. I loved your post today. Thank you so much. Sweet lady, is there snow already?

Haha. He actually turned out to be pretty good in the kitchen! Such a sweet little guy he was, and still is one of the good guys. Thank you.

Love the way she handled his "fix."
Not all moms would have been so kind and patient about it.

What a good little chap, I hope he never fried an food for you all. I still get grumble at for leaving things in the pockets, but only coins and tissues. The trouble is I get muddy on the garden and have to do a wash every couple of days . We call them pegs.
