Oh, yes, I love Monarchs and we are right in the path of their migration.....the office I work in (when I am at work) has a beautiful landscape area in the middle of the huge building complex and one of the highlights is a Monarch garden that is just alive with them when they fly through. And then, there is milk week all through town here so we are very friendly. I have butterfly tats.....

Yes a lot of flowers are not too good to handle, some protection against insects and animals . I personally like to grow easy going little beauties. Nice if they are edible, but I can see the advantage in a specialist crop,

I'm always thrilled to see a monarch butterfly. I probably won't be going to the trouble to make pillows though. Sounds like too much work. LOL.

One of the Northwestern states was growing vast amounts of this. Companies were making comforters, pillows and all sorts of things.

Lucky they found out in time that it's the only natural food of the
Monarch butterfly - I remember Mom whacking them any time they came up in her garden or flower beds. Now if one pops up, I let 'er grow. Love those butterflies.

Until 2014, milkweed was on an Ontario list of 'noxious plants' that had to destroyed, which has contributed to the immense reduction of the Monarch butterfly. I bought a couple of -plants last year, but they got eaten by something that apparently didn't find them all that 'noxious'...
