No question that watching the news and all the dreadful stories can ramp up someone’s anxiety. I avoid it though I sometimes find I’m at a loss when people are talking about current event. But do I really care? Not so much….

Kabu,
I agree. Too much TV is depressing unless one finds a good movie or informative channel. When I worked in the beauty shop many years ago, I had much time on my hands in the beginning and I made all sorts of pillows, rugs and pictures of various threads. One picture I made; I think it was cross-stitch, was a picture of two oriental looking vases and I was so proud of it when I finished, I had it framed. It is still on my wall today. It's one of those "accomplishments" and so I think you need another hobby, too! One that can be done on the inside because I know you have lots of projects on the outside. So get your artistic mind in gear and try your hand at something new. I also went to the library and checked out water coloring books and loved playing in colors. When your days are gray and cold, one must change and go another road.

My television set has only one purpose: Netflix movies. I don't miss the other stuff.

I know exactly what you mean, the news is so depressing, sometimes I wonder did I move out of CA as it seems as bad or worse here

That is exactly the sort of thing that inspired me to give me tv away a few years ago. Still when financial crisis stuff looms large you can always look at Iceland's solution - that is a nation of people for whom I have a great deal of respect

We feel the very same way and have been in that rut. It drags me down so much.

Being as active as I am I'm always surrounded with the stuff and find myself gravitating from time to time to music, or my keyboards and guitar.

I know how you feel Kabu , you need a hobby, every day I take a couple of the crinkly tops off of non-alcoholic beer. I thought to myself, I know if I were to nail them to a plank it would make an ideal foot scraper. So about six months ago I started saving them. I now have a large bag full. The idea of trying to nail these to a plank is making me feel rather uneasy. Anyway it is a hobby and I will collect another bag full. Just one idea out of thousands to help you.

You are so right Kabu! Way too much negativity. Our principal at my school told our kids if they read 11,000 books that he would wear a dress and the 11,000th person could paint his toenails and fingernails. The local news was there and taped the whole thing. They showed maybe a minute at the end of the broadcast. Meanwhile, murderers and rapists got all the attention. So wrong.

I only watch sports on TV and I stream that in as well! You are so right that the news can depress one to no end! Good for you to get outside and enjoy the peace away from it all! I read about coffee and now I must join you in a cup, too! Best wishes on the editing, it can be tough but it is so worth it! sam

It's good to know your feeling better. I agree about all the negitivity on the TV news and there are few shows that I think of as funny. If you are interested .. A&E as a show called 'Duck Dynasty', I found it accidently while channel chasing .. It had me laughing outloud!

Sad commentary on the vast enterprises who bring us
music and voices 24-7 - that silence is an improvement. I agree with you that it is. :)
