No Enigmatic I read of the healing of his mother-in-law in the Holy Bible. That is how I know. I would never confuse the Holy Bible with the Enquirer.

Oh....
and I left the church because as I got older I realised that there were too many loop holes in christianity...that women had no eqaual role. I wasn't preapred to sit down and blindly follow what was thrown at me and not question it. It had nothing to do with the church. Father Moran (the priest who was at our particular parish for 60 odd years) was the sweetest, loving God abiding man I have ever met. I'd just like to point out that I undersatnd where you're coming from, but it's unfair to only point out the flaws within part of society. I don't agree with what the pope said the other day, but I'm not ready to slam a whole church just because of what it's leader said. That would be like condemning a whole country for what their leader said.

At least the catholic church is trying to resolve the issue. It doesn't make it right and I will never condone it, quite frankly you could cut the manhood from every one of the mongrels who ever did it. But what about every other church? There was just as many childeren molostered by anglicans, church of england and presbiterian (sp?). But those churches aren't coming forth and saying, you know what? we made a mistake we're sorry. We can't take away what was done to you but we can give you some compensation...the church isn't entirely to blame either. It was a time and era where child abuse was simply ignored and not disscussed. Not only among church leaders , but it ran rampant in homes as well. It's unfair to point out one part of society when the whole of society was like it. My Mother was molested by her father, as was the tradition the her Mother sent her away for being the problem child. She was then molested in the orphanage, but is she or the hundreds of other little girls and boys who were molested there getting any compensation? No! They, just as many other instutuions from that era simply refuse to do so. While I'm not sticking up for the priests who did that. I don't think it's fair to run down the whole church for it. It's not right, but neither were any of the atitudes of that time.

So (St.) Peter was married? Did you read this in the "National Inquirerer?"

Thank you for clearing this up we are just in a mess in the states right now over so many. Peter was to have been the first Pope, he was married, he had a mother-in-law so we know how was married. The act of not marrying was instigated fairly early, I have to do more research, but because the Bishops and the Pope of the time did not feel the church could afford to keep these men and their families plus the fact they would own property and it would go to the children and not the church. My complaint is that that is a man made rule and it obviously does not work. Bishops in Africa were excommunicated because they allowed their priests to marry. It happens in both the Protestant and Catholic church but it must never be acceptable. I thank you for what you said. I did not understand that you were saying you did not find them unacceptable. Thank you for the dialog.

God bless you, proc, I could not have said it better - I also, do not defend or make excuses, for child molesters, from any belief system - including Catholicism.

And Justi, how about a little "Fair and Balanced" reporting (as they say on "Fox News") in your posts, like the work of Mother Teresa - who tirelessly worked with/for the poor and the sick, for most of her life! And who, by the way, did not have a problem with either the "Catholic Body," or the "Catholic Papacy/Hierarchy?" And what about the tireless efforts of Pope John Paull II, who lived (in his youth) through first Nazi oppression in Poland, losing many friends, and then living under Communist oppresssion? Pope John Paul II, along with President Ronald Reagan, and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (two very noble Protestants), helped bring about the downfall of Communism in the Soviet Union, and all the Eastern Bloc countries, freeing them from decades of mass murder, and government oppression.

Justi, Im sorry you have misunderstood me. I do not accept ,condone or
justify priests molesting kids. I do not condone any form of sexual or physical abuse. It turns my stomach from a woman's point of view and as a mother I could kill someone doing that to one of mine. Kill as in murder.  Neither do I think its acceptable to cover it up nor do I think that if fathers do it ,it is justified.  No one reading my previous comments could have interpreted my statements as condoning sexual molestation of kids. This would make me as guilty as those who do these acts.  Im talking about smearing every good, decent priest because of a corrupt few.  Im talking about the misguided comment made two posts ago about celebacy and priests using children to relieve themselves.  That was really not a christian comment, not what Id expect from someone like you.  Im going to repeat myself, yes, there are a minority of priests who comitt or have comitted these sick acts.  Yes,some members of the catholic church have covered up this despicable behaviour and therefore are as guilty as them of these awful crimes.  As far as Im concerned the gas chamber is too kind for these people....As for having a mandate to defend my priests, Im standing up for the innocent ones as everyone forgets the good and decent while condemning the evil. In this situation I ask myself what would Jesus do?  Considering the world's disgust and outrage I know my opinion wont be popular.  But what does my christian conscience require of me?  That I stand up for the good, the innocent and decent men in the church.
