Ariel, I'm sad to see you even contemplating leaving in November

and I'm more determined than ever, to reinforce the positive here and refocus on that, because you are an awesome writer.  I've fallen into the habit of reading what's on the new posts and comments section, and since the comments section is often full of the "yah boo" (love that crap (of which to my chagrin, yes, I know,I've added to, but no more).   It is up to us to create the reality we want to see by focusing on that.

I have had that same conflict, of wanting to speak up whenever I see something unjust, bigoted and ignorant, but I've beaten my head against a brick wall, and gotten nowhere but disgusted.  So, rather than give that negative vampire anymore energy to suck me dry, I'd rather read something more pleasant, like your writing.

Ariel, I love your posts about life in Spain
and I hope you will realize you've made an impact on at least one reader, even if I don't get to the feedback thing as often as I should.  I ask myself the same questions about the relative worth of my time vs the cost of the subscription, and whether the comments I get are what I really hoped for.  This, too, is a test life gives us before schooling us on the materials so we have a fair shot at the answers...  The thing is, we can't forget that inside these old faces lives the twinkling curiousity and innocent deviltry of children.

I hope you will stay
Or at least let us know where to find you if you decide to leave...I would miss you deeply.

Honestly, I haven't seen a lot of chatting going on lately...
and I don't think chatting should be blamed.   I think it just has to do with timing and subject matter.  Like I won't even go near the Politics and Religion posts.  Those subjects really don't interest me, so I really have nothing to say.  As for the rest I get to them when I can.  I think I have been doing better than I usually have.  Yes, I admit I do chat but it's not hours on end.  I have also witnessed that the people who do chat, do find time to read others.  Of course this is what I have witnessed.  I'm sure others might not agree.  Anyway, I hope that you will stay and keep blogging!

Speaking as a newbie..
I tend to agree with blackcat30 insofar as comments can take on a life of their own.  Sometimes some very good ideas come out of that, and I for one enjoy the banter, unless it becomes agressive and then I just bow out; I am not here for confrontation in any way, shape or form, just to write, to entertain (hopefully), and (sometimes) to try to make sense out of the muddle.  Polite discussion is fine, differences of opinion are to be respected, and for me humorous exchanges are even better.  Overall, I like the back-and-forth and the bouncing around of ideas.  I guess it all depends where you choose to dip into - or not, as the case may be.  Go get 'em, ariel70.. we'll still read..

Here is comment number one.

I try to get around to reading as many as possible, but time is always a factor.  I feel as though the comments are really what keeps this place alive.  Yes, sometimes they seem to take on a life of their own... but when it's good, it's very good.

The blogging experience is different for each person.  When it comes right down to it, it just needs to be fun for the individual.  When it ceases to be enjoyable for me, I will no longer be here.  I'm sure that's true for most everyone.
