Just passing thro' this morning.
You raise and interesting question : and unfortunately the answer seems to be that many so-called holy men would act in precisely the same manner. The incitement to murder by Mulsim clerics is too well known for me to comment on, and no doubt these men would take an active part in persecution and murder if the situation arose.
What is less well known -- has fallen below the radar of historians, so to speak -- is the part played by Christian pastors, priests et al in recent history.
In my series of posts about my atheism, I note that Catholic, Calvinist and Lutheran pastors in Germany were active in propagating a virulent form of anti-Semitism, and made little or no effort to speak out about its inevitable consequences.
During WW11, a puppet regime was set up by the Nazis in Croatia, and Catholic priests not only incited the Croats to commit mass murder, but actively participated in, for example, hurling Orthodox Christian Serbs, and Bosnian Muslim men, women and children over cliffs.
Priests in Rwanda are known to have acted in precisely this manner, when 1.5 million people were hacked to death, or, if they were lucky, shot. I am afraid that if similar situations arose in other, more stable states, the results would be identical.

Ariel, too horrible for me to comment on.
I wonder though, if the Church has grown more humane and tolerant since those days, of if they might do the same today if they had the power they had then. ARGUS

Thank you for your comment, and your continuing support.
As the late S. Holmes esq. would have said ( if he'd thought of it ) " Yes, quite so, my dear Watson. Quite so. Moriarty is indeed well known to me. let me see now ... yes, the last time that met that gentleman was at the Reichenbach falls. Rather damp, as I recall. There is a rumour afoot that Moriarty has taken to this mysterious blogging phenomenon with some considerable enthusiasm. We must enquire into it further, Watson."
Ariel's off to be right now. Cu tomorrow, I guess.

ariel70 - just saying hello and that I have been reading the entire series
with some fascination. I also want to drop this link for you to present the other side of a story that you have bore witness to.
CLICK HERE It's probably wise not to comment if you read it, I wouldn't want to drag anyone into this nonsense.

Thank you for your comment.
Indeed so. The Spanish Inquisition was perhaps the worst example of religious bigotry in action, and sadly it merely set the pattern for succeeding secular reigns of terror. Seems as if we never learn.

Makes you shudder
when you realise what people do if it fits their interpretation of their religion.

yuck
their faith in their religion was so great
their belief in its efficacy
that they had to torture others in order to make them believe.
