My mom used all kinds of stuff on ours.  She finally resorted to soapy water.  That worked the best for her, but they don't stay gone long.  You're right.  Maybe the military issue stuff will be the magic solution.  Fingers crossed!

Those bugs are a nightmare.  Carl used some stuff on ours that was military issue...seems to be working but I don't trust anything to continue to keep them gone.

My mom and dad had a box elder tree on the side of their house.  It had gotten so huge.  I actually loved that tree, because its branches were low and wide-spreading--it was a little like having a secret place to sit and think at the picnic table they'd put there.  But a few years ago, no matter what my mom did to reduce their numbers the box elder bugs had gotten so incredibly out of control (invaded the house in large numbers, swarmed the ground and the side of the house outside around the tree), that she finally got rid of that tree.  When I was there a couple weeks ago, there were still a few of those damn bugs creeping around the house, even though the tree was gone.  In November!  Pesky things.

I'm glad to hear you talking the way you are about the tree. I wish I more often were about to see the positive in bad situations/circumstances. My mom would have thought the same thing as you (being glad it didn't take out her room).

LOL Nancy

It only took a part of it.  But who knows maybe the next storm will get rid of the rest for me. LOL

MW,

I'm thankful you and your home are all right.  And the fact that the windstorm took out a hated tree is all the better.  Yeah, free firewood.

Quirky
I thought about that.   Sometimes the things that happen, do so for a reason.  I don't talk to Furby!!!

I hate that tree and given it has power lines running through it it would cost me close to $1000 to have it taken out.  I am jsut glad everything worked out as it did.

Wiley

It could have been much worse...now all I have to do is get this cleared out of my yard.  Tons better than replacing a part of my house.

ooh.  not one of the things I miss about the Midwest:  windstorms and power outages in cold weather!  Glad your got your power back so quickly, and thankful your Box Elder was kind enough to miss your roof!

perhaps the power outage served the purpose of removing you from the home, in the event that the tree was not able to miss the house?? anyway...glad you and the house are okay! Furby sends his regards!!

Not sure where you are but we had wind here and a tree trashed the horse pasture fence and just missed my shop.

Gosh, MW, I guess you are a very lucky girl......

I know the wind was pretty bad here too.  Those big trees out in the yard are very scarey when we have powerful winds like that.  We have big limbs like that come off, too.

Well, I'm glad you are ok and you have your power back on.  You can always grow another tree, can't ya?  lol

MW,

I'm in the dark here, hehe. Yeah, my idea of a pun. So, what's the story, a bad wind storm, early winter weather or what? Sorry, I've been away for the last few days and busy. I'm very thankful the tree missed your house. That would have been a mess for sure. Shadow
